Just wanted to remind you about the Band Banquet on Sunday June 1st. 1-4pm. Winterguard will be recongnized (along with band classes). Would also love to have volunteers to help set up :))) Sign ups are on band volunteer page.
Also we'd like to get a thank you gift for Mason and Syd and would appreciate any donations. Any amount! You can drop them by my house or mail. Or give to Taylor at school, or Colby or Kim at a practice. Let me know if you send anything so I can let you know when I get it.
I know there were a few of you that asked about ordering flag/poles for your own, so here's the place we have ordered from. 6' silver is the usual. We have lots of flags that have been used in the past that you can probably have. Talk to Rebecca about that.
We have also ordered rifles from them. Taylor has the Endura Drill Rifle which is composite. The others I believe are wood. Either is fine. 36" length with black bolt and strap.
Now that I've had time to catch my breath..... I wanted to send out an email to everyone to say THANK YOU!!! This has been a very ...... ah interesting season! But with all the delays, closures, changes, tragedies and having so many new girls it was incredibly successful. I truly appreciate everyones patience and willingness to be flexible. I can honestly say we've never had to deal with all of that so much before! I'm so proud of all the girls! They learned so much, so fast and I think they really had fun doing it. This pushed a lot of them out of their comfort zones and we all could see how much they grew from it. I can tell you that this program was the best thing that ever happened to Taylor!! She has learned so much and she will use all the skills for the rest of her life. I am grateful to Mason and Syd for always being there for her. And I look forward to the next 5 years with Colby (I can't believe I just said that!) I hope that the girls will consider doing marching guard in the fall (don't tell Doc I said that!) or winterguard again next year. AND BRING FRIENDS! And a HUGE thank you to Kim and Jeanne- I may be the one that talks the most but they did just as much, if not more work than I did!! I'm going to miss all the seniors and their families, but I know that once a guard girl - always a guard girl, so we'll still see you! Kim will be taking over as Guard Mom next year (really next week!) And speaking of next year- Guard/percussion/marching band orientations are May 12th & 13th. Please pass the info along to any incoming freshman or upperclassmen that might be interested in trying it.
Now on a completely but sort of related topic.....I want to invite all the girls and their moms to come to a free Jazzercise class this Friday night at 6pm. I've been jazzercising for almost 28 years (off and on). I HATE exercising but I love jazzercising because it's more like dancing. I'd love for you to all try it. I would be an awesome way to stay in shape and build up your cardio lever over the summer , or all year long. There are lots of classes through out the days and evenings. Mrs Spalding (Mandy and Brookes mom), Mrs McCullogh (Kyles mom), and Mrs Fishel all Jazz also. There are NO mirrors. There are women there from high schoolers to women in their 80's wearing everything from workout wear to shorts and t shirts. There are some who obviously have dance ablity and some who having trouble walking across the floor. And everybody is friendly!! I go for the social aspect as much as the exercise! I've always thought it would be great to get the guard in for classes but never got it organized. So this Friday they are having a special "fun" class to introduce it to as many new people as possible.
And finally - remember the Band Banquet on June 1st 1-4. All winter emsembles will be recognized and of course there will be the senior slide show after- yes Jeanne and I will be bawling!!
Thanks again for a fabulous season!
Most important: The start time of the performance has been pushed back to 6:30. So our practice will now start at 5:00 most likely in the lower gym. Come in practice clothes and you'll change before performance. We will be performing first followed by percussion. Hair will be down with hairband (which you should all have your own) doesn't need to be straightened unless you want to. Makeup should be just your normal makeup (or if you don't normally wear makeup and want some help we'll be there to help) Remember to bring your duffle bag and stuff to turn in. After the percussion performs we'll find a spot in the cafeteria to have our get together.
See you tomorrow!
I know we are all on Spring Break time, but looking ahead ......... Monday night Mason wants to have time to practice a little before the 6:00 exhibition. So If the girls could get there around 4:30 they can run through it before people start showing up. And also, since we don't want the season to end, we were going to have a little dessert get together in the cafeteria right after percussion performs, to give Mason a chance to give a recap of the season. It shouldn't be too late but we'd love to have everyone (girls and parents) there. And finally we'd like to go ahead and collect all the winterguard "stuff". Girls bring something to change into after the performance and then we can collect , uniform, suck n tuck, windsuits if you have them, weapons if you have them, and duffle bags. We'll send out an email on Monday (or captains will send one out) with specifics on wether to come dressed or not, etc.

Eat and Dress 2:30pm
Arrive at Dorton 4:30pm
Start Rotation 5:19pm
Is our schedule for Saturday! Sunday will be free. If it rains and we have a hard time folding our floor on Saturday after performing we may need some girls to come help refold on sunday. So we'll see the girls at school ready to go at 10.
- Suck n tuck
- money for dinner
- Tshirt/leggings (may stay in uniform for awards- captains will let you know about that)
- Flip Flops
We also will need some parents to help drive the girls over. If you want to just drop them and come back later that would be fine!
Jeanne will also be asking for Chaperones for the morning practice.
Looking forward to this Saturday!!!
Jami, Kim and Jeanne
Because of the Wind Ensemble traveling to New York we had not scheduled a practice tomorrow night . We did have one scheduled for next Tuesday even though the band wouldn't be back yet. Mason would instead like to cancel the Tuesday night practice and move it to Wednesday. So it would be Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat morning practice next week. Since we weren't able to have practice Tuesday of this week and tonights only had 1/2 the girls they really need the extra practice. There are some changes that need to be made because of Judges comments. Please let me know if you would not be able to make Wed night.
Thanks as always for your understanding and flexibility!
Just a reminder that there will be no practice on Friday due to Band trip to Carnagie Hall.
As most of you know Rachel Smith lost her grandma 2 weeks ago. Yesterday her grandpa very suddenly passed away. Both were Martha's parents. Just wanted you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
So news flash to me...... The AIA is trying to make the championship a finals only event for A1 and above. Which means we would only perform once on Saturday and for right now that is scheduled at 5:53. With awards at 10:30. BUT that could change! They are still tweaking it. So unfortunately I don't think we can clear Sunday yet. As soon as we know anything we'll let you know.
