Practice today starts at 11am since WCPSS cancelled today's makeup day due to icy roads. Wakefield is still having their competition- delayed until 9:30am so we felt that by 11an the temps should be close to 50 and we should be fine. Everything else schedule wise will stay the same.
In case you did not receive an email from the band, I wanted to let you know very sad news. Buzz (Olivia's dad) passed away this morning from Lung Cancer. He had all his family with him last night. When I find out information on his service I will let you know. We would like as many guard members to go as possible to be there for Olivia. Next week we will be wearing white ribbons to the competition in his memory. There is a guest book to sign at www.caringbridge.org
if you want to send a message to the family. We will have a card at practice tonight for the girls to sign.
Buzz's service will be on Sunday at 10am at Montlawn Funeral Home 2911 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC. There will be a group of guard meeting at the school at 9 to go together (leaving by 9:15). If you are interested in driving together, let Jeanne or Kim know so they can plan. We'll be ordering flowers for the service from guard. If you want to donate, please let me know.
One last call for tshirt orders. The price will be $16.00. It's on a bright blue with white writing. I'm not pushing anyone! Just want to make sure everyone has gotten the message. I've heard from most of you. If you have not ordered one (which is fine) would you please email me and let me know that you did get the message but just aren't interested, girls only. I'm sending the order in at about 8 tonight.
As you might have figured out already- practice is cancelled for tonight!
Just wanted to say again what a fantastic job the girls did on Saturday! They had a lot to learn last week and they really pulled it all together. It was a beautiful show! There are pictures up on smug mug and the Guard facebook page.
A couple of reminders though. If you plan on having your daughter leave the competition, with you or anyone else, we REALLY need to know ahead of time IN WRITING (email) not during the competition. We know that plans change and that's ok, but if you know ahead of time it really helps the chaperones!! It's very hard to keep track of 23 girls and who they're leaving with and planning on drivers to go back to school. ESPECIALLY if your daughter is going home with a non family member - we need to know that !!
Next- we need to get guard shirts ordered ASAP! I heard from a few people. I want to put the order in by tomorrow at the latest so we can have them for the next competition. So if you are interested , please let me know today!
Make sure you wash your uniform (gentle wash, air dry) and suck n tuck. Hopefully weather coming in wont bother us for practice this week. There will be more info coming out about practice on Saturday.
Thanks for all your support!!
Jami , Jeanne, and Kim
IMPORTANT !!! Any one that has the black/grey eyeshadows from the first competition please bring them to the Panther Creek Competition!!!
I hate to say it, but "what a nice week of weather!" Now I'm sure I've jinxed it!! There is a chance of wintery mix late tonight/early morning. I don't expect it to be a problem but check your email in the morning to see if there are any changes. The girls need to be there and ready to rehearse at 9:15 in lower gym. We'll be breaking for lunch and dressing at 12 and leaving Athens at 1:30. We'll perform at 3:24 and then awards should be around 5:30. If you plan on attending the competition and will be taking your daughter home with you please let me know.
Girls need to pack/bring:
Suck n Tuck
Makeup (black eyeliner and mascara)
Flat iron if you are going to need to use it. (if you can straighten your hair before practice that would be best!)
Jacket (for going to and from cars)
And if you haven't turned in your headband please bring it!!! I'm still missing a few.
The captains have asked that you bring all black leggings or yoga type pants, a plain white shirt (or as plain as you can get) and if you have a black or blue jacket bring that. If you don't have any of these things, let the captains know tonight and they will help find you one!!! All the upperclassmen and returning marching guard girls do have a windsuit jacket . We've received a few from past members but its not enough for all the newbies to get one so at this point we'll just leave it as is.
Which brings me to my next piece of information. We WILL be ordering tshirts. We've held off waiting to get a definite show title, but now we're just going to go ahead and do it anyways!!! It will take 1 1/2- 2 weeks so if we can get them ordered this weekend we should have them for the next competition and they can wear them. It's completely optional!!! It will be long sleeve and will of course have all the girls names on it. Some small pocket size design on the front and writing down the sleeve also. Probably in a blue color. It will be about $18-$19. Depending on how many we order it might be less than that. I'm attaching a copy of it so everyone can proof read . If you want to order one (or two) send me an email with size. Yes parents can order them too. It should be normal ladies sizing. If dads want them we can get those also. Sorry that we end up rushing this! Every year we say we're going to start early but something always happens!!
I think that's everything!
Winter Guard Information Meeting/Auditions for the 2013-2014 season will be held November 19, 21 and 26 from 5:45-8pm. Place TBD. Anyone is welcome.
