Doc's Weekly Letter--Winter Percussion and more!

Dear Athens Drive H.S. Band families,

We're almost at Spring Break!  Woo-hoo!  Wow has it been a long haul since the beginning of the year!
Here's the band happenings as of today (4/4--a very "common time"... ha, music joke).

1) Our Winter Percussion ensemble will be leaving for Dayton, Ohio next Tuesday, April 9th at 11:30am to compete in the World Championships.  This group (including their parents and staff) has done an outstanding job raising money and basically working their tail off to make this trip a reality.  Thank you for representing our band program on the international stage!
2) Our annual spring Band BBQ will be on April 26!  We're going to do some NEW things with this go-around:  We're making our own BBQ! It's going to be lit--I mean, not hot but really good!  We need lots of participation to make this happen, but it will be fun.  And it means loads of money for our band, money that we don't need to charge families:)  Thank you!
3) Hey senior parents, we are collecting pictures of the senior class for the end-of-year video that we show following the Band Banquet (on June 2).  This video is a really cute and great keepsake:  so fun to watch those little babies growing into the "less than cute but still adorable" 17 & 18 year-olds that they are.  Please send pictures to srbandy19@gmail.com by April 12.
4) I'm planning to teach guitar lessons this summer at the home of a band parent who lives about 2 miles from Athens Drive.  I've been doing this for many years and has always been an enjoyable experience for all involved.   Learning to play the guitar is a great way to broaden your musical skills because it involves melody, harmony, and rhythm simultaneously.  If interested, please see attachment below.
5) Information about our 2019 MARCHING BAND, as well as Drum Major and Section Leader auditions and interviews will be sent next week!

Thank you for all your continued support!
