Adventure Awaits! Marching Band and Outback Bowl Trip

posted Apr 16, 2017, 4:35 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Apr 16, 2017, 4:35 PM ]
The Athens Drive Marching Band will be traveling to Tampa Florida to participate and perform in the New Year’s Day 2018 Outback Bowl!  Next year will be simply a “special year” for our marching band… like the season we performed in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade or the Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC.  It’s an HONOR to be part of a national event like the Outback Bowl!
What does it mean to participate in the Outback Bowl?  Check out this 5 minute video link for more details about what to expect and what makes this experience so special!
Everyone in the Marching Band will attend the Outback Bowl trip.  Since all Marching Band members will be part of the trip, the Outback Bowl trip is included in the 2017-18 Marching Band Fees and Fair Share Obligations.  Trip dates will be December 28, 2017 – Jan 2, 2018 so go ahead and mark your calendars!

Marching Band Registration will begin very soon and the website will also be updated shortly with all this information.  By registering for Marching Band, your student is also registering for the Outback Bowl trip.  There will NOT be a separate Outback Bowl Trip registration for students.  Registration for additional family members and chaperones will be available separately.

For 2017-18, payment plans include expenses for BOTH Marching Band AND the Outback Bowl trip.
$100
Marching Band Non-Refundable Registration Fee
$975
Marching Band Fair Share Obligation ($775 for Color Guard)
Sibling discounts apply.  See website for details.
$825
Outback Bowl Trip
Includes hotel, transportation, tickets for Busch Gardens, Disney, Outback Bowl Activities (Parade, Field Show Competition, Bowl Game including mass band half time show, and more), hot breakfast every day, one additional meal a day, etc. Students will need additional money for one meal a day and any souvenirs. Sibling discounts do NOT apply for the trip.  NOTE:  Original trip costs were over $1,000.  Because of the special nature of this trip, bus transportation costs are being covered by the band’s general fund, an estimated $200 value per student.
$175
Service Commitment  (maximum 5 shifts @$35 each)
In addition to the participation fees above, each family is responsible for fulfilling 5 service commitments at a qualifying fundraiser (PNC Arena and/or State Fair Parking).  This commitment will appear as a $175 charge on your band statement and you will receive a $35 credit for each commitment worked (in addition to the credit for working the shift) up to a maximum of 5 service credits.  Service credits for the year can be earned as early as April 1, 2017 and must be completed by June 1, 2018.

PAYMENT PLANS
To assist families and to ensure sufficient cash flow to pay marching band and Outback Bowl expenses (the majority of expenses occur early in the season), several payment plans have been designed to meet a variety of financial situations. Financial assistance will also be available for families who demonstrate need.   Of course, money earned through fundraisers and service commitments will lower these amounts.

Students/families owing a balance on their band account from the previous year must pay their balance in full no later than June 1st in order to enroll for the upcoming year.  Families with demonstrated financial need may apply for financial aid in meeting their unpaid balance.

Remember, payment plans include expenses for BOTH Marching Band AND the Outback Bowl trip.  Families will be required to select a payment plan when completing the Marching Band Registration form so please review the options before completing registration.

Option 1 – Early Payment Incentive – Pay the entire $825 for the Outback Bowl trip upfront and receive a $75 credit to your band account by the start of band camp (save over 9% of trip costs)!  NOTE:  You must pay the entire amount and your band account must otherwise be current (all 2016-17 and prior fees paid in full) to be eligible for Early Payment Incentive.

The financial requirements of Marching Band can seem a little overwhelming, especially in a year like this, but please don’t let the finances stop you from joining the marching band.  There are a large number of ways to earn funds to help offset the costs of participating in band.  It really is easier than you might think.  In addition, financial aid is available to families who demonstrate a true financial need.  Just remember that this is an investment in your student that will last a lifetime!  To find out more about fundraising opportunities or additional details, visit the band website or attend the Band-Aid Workshop!
