COMMON CORE AND ESSENTIAL STANDARDS SUPPORT FOR OTHER CONTENT AREAS


This site offers support in implememnting the Essential Standards and appropriate elements of the Common Core Reading and Writing Standards in Healthful Living, English as a Second Language, and Visual and Performing Arts.  The documents below will be helpful as teachers plan for full implememntation in the 2012-2013 school year.  This site will be updated periodically, so check back often.

The Standards


Though the Common Core standards for reading and writing are not explicitly part of the standards, the principles inherent in the core standards for Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking are skills that are developed over the entire school.  This video will give you a nice overview of the standards that you will most often see in arts, ESL,World Languages and Healthful Living:

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE


ESL Teachers will be called upon to help support the Common Core and Essential Standards in Math, English Language Arts and Reading and Writing in other content areas.  In addition to the WIDA Standards, ESL teachers will need an understanding of how to support ESL students in navigating through the Common Core and Essential Standards.  Below are some documents that the NCDPI has developed to support ESL students:
