with Prof. Drissen (22-30 August 2011)

At the invitation of the Honorable Minister of Education of Rwanda, Prof. Laurent Drissen, from the University of Laval (Canada) will visit Rwanda. He will give public lectures at many of the institutions of higher learning and at some of the high schools in Rwanda.

Prof. LAURENT DRISSEN is a professor in Astrophysics at the University of Laval and is specialist of the massive stars. He obtained his PhD at the University of Montreal (Canada) in 1990. From 1990-1994, he did his Post-doctoral research at the NASA's Space Telescope Science Institute at Baltimore (USA). During this period, he got an opportunity to observe with the Hubble Space Telescope.

In 1996, using the Observatory Canada-France-Hawaii (CFHT) located at Mont Hena in Hawaii, he discovered the supernova SN1996D, with his three colleagues. At that time, it was the third supernova discovered with known generating star. In September, 2001, he was laureate of the Research Chair of Canada on the massive stars.
