The happy amateur astronomy experience happens at home. (1)
Amateur Astronomy is a hobby whose participants enjoy watching the Night Sky, and the abundance of objects found in it with the unaided eye, binoculars, or telescopes (from Wikipedia).
They promote, the grassroots empowerment of the individual amateur and professional astronomer and their societies, to share their experiences in astronomy with local children and their Science Educators.
On a clear night, while sitting at you backyard, begin by getting familiar with the main objects visible in your Night Sky, using only, two very inexpensive tools: a PLANISPHERE and your own eyes.
After about 20 minutes of sitting in the dark, you will be amazed at how many objects you will be able to distinguish (your eyes are actually the equivalent of about a 9 mm pair of binoculars).
