By 1914 Horace had become frustrated with the component industry and found a solution by creating the new four cylinder Dodge 30 Model. By 1916 Dodge was rated in 2nd place for US sales. Continuing in 2nd place until 1920 when tragedy struck, John died of pneumonia in January and in December Horace died of cirrhosis. The ownership was taken over by the widows who promoted Frederick Haynes to the company presidency. During the next years the Model 30 evolved into the Series 116 and Dodge emerged as a leading builder of light trucks. In 1925 the widows sold the company to Dillon Read + Co. for $ 146 million but the companies position was falling. Late 1925 the company aquired Graham for ? 13 million.
