Operation Bookshelf

Since 1972, Operation Bookshelf™   has brought positive change in the lives of adults who are homebound. Working in partnership with the Salem Public Library, Assistance League volunteers deliver books, CDs and videos  to each of 80 homebound patrons each month.  Volunteers also assemble and deliver birthday bags filled with small gifts. Assistance League of Salem donates funds each year for the purchase of large-print books, audio books and CD players for patrons with limited vision.
A client recently expressed appreciation with these words:
"Thank you so much for the bag full of thoughtful gifts you sent for my birthday.   Most of all, thank you for so faithfully bringing the library to our door.  You have been doing this for me for a very long time now.  I can't tell you how much this service means to me.  It is my one consistent lifeline to the outside world!"
