One 2011-2012 Assistance League Goal is:
"Maximize resources, effectiveness and sustainability."
Reduce: We make double-sided copies, use environmentally-friendly paper and cleaning products and conserve electricity and water usage through weatherization, compact Fluorescent lighting, drip irrigation, an drought-tolerant plants. Cooks Tour and Lasagna Lunch are Zero Waste events.
Reuse: The Gift Shop and Encore Furniture are based on the concept of Reuse, but we go far beyond selling pre-owned items. We save cardboard shirt inserts, plastic bags, Styrofoam, and broken dishes for reuse in classrooms, thrift shops, and art studios.
Recycle: We recycle all possible items that cannot be reused, cutting hundreds of dollars from waste removal charges.
Working toward our sustainability goal saves our organization funds that are used to provide essential services to area students and homebound adults.
