Welcome to the After School Matters Professional Learning Community!

Program Instruction Philosophy

Whether you are offering an After School Matters program for the first time or a returning provider, the Programs Department can support your work. The supports we provide are coaching and providing professional development. We also provide this online space so that you can share best practices around teen engagement, and career and college readiness implementation, as well as authentic learning strategies for youth. Throughout the year you will have access to a variety of professional development opportunities and resource information that will further enrich a teen’s experience in your program and support your own personal/ professional growth.

About the Professional Learning Community
A Professional Learning Community (PLC) extends classroom practice into the community and engages students, instructors, and other staff simultaneously in learning in order to enhance student experiences. At the heart of a PLC is collaboration. Through working together (ASM staff and instructors) to establish a body of a collaborative knowledge we can help ensure that the highest quality programs are being delivered to our teens. In order to achieve this, there are a few areas ASM is working to develop with instructors:
  • A sense of identity as an ASM instructor
  • Open space for communication and feedback
  • Instructor-centered resources and best practices
Through cultivating a PLC, we hope ASM instructors find opportunities to hone their expertise and share with each other. We invite you to use existing resources, contribute your own resources, and provide constructive feedback to us and each other.
