What is Counselling?

"There are no classes in life for beginners: right away you are always asked to deal with what is most difficult." Rainer Maria Rilke

Counselling involves talking through issues and concerns as a way of shedding light on them. It can help to:
    • Overcome problems that are getting in the way
    • Manage challenging relationships or find more fulfilling ones
    • Come to terms with losses and traumas
    • Understand feelings of anger and frustration
    • Gain confidence in yourself and your future

The starting point for counselling is that ‘you’ know what you need to do and how, and counselling can help unlock that awareness and knowledge so that you can access it. This means counselling does not involve being told what to do or being given direct advice.

In linking the present with the past, and bringing unconscious ideas into the open, you will come to understand yourself and your behaviour more fully and be able to make more informed choices about your life and your relationships in light of that.
