Oil Free Compressor Applications
Many compressors are conventionally designed to have oil bearings to support the rotor. Advancements in technology have provided us alternatives to oil bearings, such as electromagnetic (oil free) bearings. This presentation will review the components of compressors, including the operational theory of electromagnetic bearings. We will examine the benefits of using electromagnetic bearings in compressor design and their effect on the performance of chillers. In addition, the various applications of compressors with electromagnetic bearings in new and retrofit installations will be discussed.
