Save a Buck
Save a Buck
It was built circa1888, the same year that the National Bank commenced trading in Wynyard. Approximately 20 years later the bank moved to its new building at 30 Goldie Street and H.G. Stutterd took over the general store. Since that time many ownerships and tenancies of the building have taken place. From the days of the original store there have been: groceries (Lean and Smith), fruit shops (including Reub, King and others), drapery (Ambroses), haberdashery (Napier), newsagent (Lawrence), electrical good (Loughran, Jogot), agricultural products (King and Catledge), sports store (Chipman), hairdressers (Men's Morse, ladies' different owners), dentist (Bolster), furniture (Bassett, Summers). In 1980 Laurie Edwards opened the Save-a-Buck Hotel (second hand goods) later purchased by Steve and Judy Charles, and the name shortened to Save A Buck.
