PLEASE NOTE:

  • ALL ITEMS (EXCEPT BEDDING & 2nd PAIR OF SHOES) MUST FIT IN YOUR 5 GALLON BUCKET WITH A LID, RESOURCES HERE.

CLOTHING

All clothing is to be Pioneer oriented (See Pioneer Clothing Guidelines & Tips Page)

Women:
  • 2 ankle or mid-calf length dresses (or skirts/jumpers and blouses)
  • Modest sleepwear
  • Bloomers or lightweight capris (to be worn under skirt- see examples on Pioneer Clothing Guidelines & Tips page here. No shorts.)
  • Optional: Bonnet & apron

 
Men:
  • 2 pairs long cotton pants, dockers, corduroy or khaki, or non-polyester suit pants (NO jeans or camo pants)
  • 2 long sleeved, button-front shirts (no logos showing), Band Collar style or Sunday shirt with the collar cut off to create a band collar. Example of Men's Band Collar Shirt here.
  • 1 pair suspenders, rope or belt
  • Modest sleepwear
  • Optional: straw hat, felt hat, newsies cap (no baseball caps or army hats, cowboy hats discouraged)
  • Optional: vest
 
All
  • 1 rain poncho (Rainstorms are common in July)
  • 2 pairs of comfortable well worn shoes (hiking boots, running shoes or athletic shoes- do NOT use new shoes or you will get blisters)
  • 3 pairs of absorbent socks, long to tuck into pants or bloomers
  • 2 sets underclothing
  • Jacket, sweater or shawl depending on weather forecast in Hume, VA
  • 2 bandanas- use for towel, sweat rag, wash cloth, etc.
  • Optional: 2 pairs wicking socks to wear under absorbent socks
  • Optional: gloves for pushing handcart HIGHLY recommended
 

EQUIPMENT

  • NEW ITEM!!!! Re-usable water bottle/canteen (in addition to cup below) -- and a method to carry it while pulling/pushing the cart
  • NEW ITEM!!!! SMALL FLASHLIGHT with replacement batteries
  • 5 GALLON BUCKET WITH LID, labeled with your NAME & WARD to contain ALL clothing and gear  (NOT including bedding, visqueen, 2nd pair of shoes and musical instruments for performers. 5 Gallon Bucket Resources here)
  • All gear- sleeping bag & pillow packed separately in a heavy duty plastic trash bag. (It will rain!)
  • Plastic Groundcloth: either Visqueen, Vinyl Shower Curtain or Plastic Sheeting (at least 4 ML thickness, at least 4' x 8'- to go under sleeping bag'). Include this in the heavy duty trash bag with your sleeping bag. Visqueen & Alternative Resources Here.
  • 1 heavy duty Plastic bags for wet, dirty clothing
  • Tin cup labeled with your name (or blue enamelware cup or stainless steel collapsible backpacking cup).
       (NOTE: we will not supply water bottles or disposable cups.
         If you want a drink, you must use the cup you bring to 
         get water out of the jug.  You can also fill your re-usable
         water bottle / canteen to carry with you.  You need to
         be able
to put the cup / bottle in your pocket or tie it to your clothes. If 
         you are prone to losing things, bring two.)
  • Toothbrush and small toothpaste
  • Washcloth
  • Prescription medications if needed, labeled in original pack (will be checked in with Ma & Pa)
  • Chapstick
  • Small size sunblock
  • Small hand sanitizer
  • Small insect repellent WITH DEET for mosquitoes, example online here
  • NEW: Tick Repellent for fabric WITH PERMETHRIN (chemical for CLOTHING only, not for skin). Several brands online here (TICK PREVENTION TIPS HERE). Also available at Dicks Sporting Goods.
  • Moist hand wipes or baby wipes in a ZIPLOC BAG
  • Deodorant/ Antiperspirant
  • Band-Aids & Mole Skin for foot care
  • Comb or Brush
  • Old set of scriptures IN A ZIPLOC BAG
  • Your One-Page Pioneer Story IN A ZIPLOC BAG
  • Journal, pen or pencil IN A ZIPLOC BAG
  • Eye glasses & case (Contact lenses will be difficult. Serious eye infections can result)
  • Women- feminine hygiene supplies
  • Optional: any additional orthotics, arch or heel support or shoe inserts for comfort
  • Optional: inexpensive camera in a sturdy, waterproof case 
      NO CELL PHONE CAMERAS, IPOD NANO CAMERAS or SIMILAR DEVICES.
 

DO NOT BRING

  • CELL PHONES
  • ELECTRONICS of any sort (i.e., ipods, mp3 players, hand held devices etc…)
  • Cosmetics
  • Contact lenses (due to risk of eye infection- opt for eyeglasses instead, see above)
  • Jewelry, watches, wallets, cash, etc. (Risk of loss or damage)
  • Personal food or candy
