REFER TO THE YOUTH CHECKLIST ON THE LEFT HAND SIDEBAR TO SEE IF YOUR CHILD IS ON TRACK FOR TREK.

ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO CONDITION THEMSELVES FOR TREK:

Some basic information about physically conditioning for Trek are on the Conditioning for Trek page including a suggested walking regimen, conditioning your feet to prevent blisters and hydration. Spiritual preparation is also included.

HELP YOUR CHILD GET AN EARLY START ON ASSEMBLING HIS/HER PIONEER OUTFITS:

The last thing you want to hear 10 pm the night before the Trek is "Mom, I need something for bloomers for the Trek" or "Mom, I only have one outfit- what can I use for my second outfit?" Preparing enough items may take time. Remember, 2 pioneer outfits and sleepwear. Please visit the Pioneer Clothing Guidelines and Tips page here and the Youth Packing Lists & Policies here.

ENCOURAGE YOUR TO CONSIDER PERSONAL PROGRESS & DUTY TO GOD IN THEIR TREK PREPARATION:

Some ideas for Personal Progress and Duty to God are here on the Personal Progress/ Duty to God/ Eagle Project Ideas Page.

CHECK YOUR YOUTH’S PACKS:

CAREFULLY OBSERVE PACKING GUIDELINES- Everything (besides bedding & 2nd pair of shoes) must fit in a 5-Gallon Bucket with Lid). 2nd Pair of shoes will be tied to the outside of the bucket. See Youth Packing Lists & Policies here.

SLEEPING BAG & PILLOW & VISQUEEN are to be in a separate HEAVY DUTY TRASHBAG

Make sure your child has an old set of SCRIPTURES & JOURNAL IN A ZIPLOC BAG.

Make sure they have their ONE-PAGE PIONEER STORY in a ZIPLOC BAG.

SENDING YOUR CHILD OFF:

ENCOURAGE YOUTH TO EAT A HEARTY BREAKFAST AT HOME ON THURSDAY MORNING AND TO DRINK FLUIDS. JULY 8TH.

TRANSPORTATION:

Each ward/branch will have a plan of designated drivers to the Trek site near the Marriot Ranch in Hume VA at the OFF POINTS. Directions to the Trail Ride Drop Off Point & Marriott Ranch here.

DRIVERS: Drop off youth at the trailhead at 8 am on Thursday July 8th. Drivers are encouraged to drop off youth then quickly depart. Driving time from Leesburg to the trailhead is about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A CELL PHONE OR ELECTRONICS:

Electronic devices may get lost or damaged. But more importantly, the object of the Trek is for the youth to have an authentic pioneer wilderness experience free of texting, gaming, the internet & mp3 players. Electronic devices will also be disruptive to the group, therefore, make sure he or she leaves it home. If however you need to contact your child, you may get in contact with him/her through the Youth Conference staff Contact Us Page here.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION:

If you need to contact the Youth Conference staff DURING THE TREK in case of an emergency, Emergency Contact information is on the Contact Us Page here.

There are no emergency numbers at the
Marriott Ranch itself. The office number is 540-364-2627.

NEW!!! CHECK YOUR CHILD FOR TICKS AFTER TREK:

Checking the body for ticksConduct a full body check for ticks. Use a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body and remove any tick you find. Check these parts of your body for ticks:
