IDEAS FOR PERSONAL PROGRESS OR DUTY TO GOD:

We have 2 SPECIFIC PROJECTS that we believe would be suitable for a DUTY TO GOD, PERSONAL PROGRESS, or an EAGLE PROJECT, working with the Trek Wagon Master, Mike Chamberlin (Leesburg Ward).

SEEKING YOUTH TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS:
    1. POWER WASHING THE HANDCARTS
    2. VARNISHING THE HANDCARTS
(See Personal Progress- Good Works hereSee Duty to God- Quorum Activities here. See Eagle Scout service project here.)

MORE SUGGESTIONS FOR PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD on PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD/ EAGLE PROJECT IDEAS PAGE

Please encourage individuals and Class/Quorum Presidencies to consider Trek Preparation combined with PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD in their Mutual activity planning.

YOUTH ONE-PAGE PIONEER STORY:

We are asking each youth to prepare and bring a One-Page Pioneer StoryWard/Branch YM & YW Leaders can help remind the kids they need to prepare and bring a one-page pioneer story.  They will be called upon during the trek to re-tell this story.

The story can be one of three kinds:

  1. Youth with a pioneer ancestor: the story can be about that pioneer's experiences
  2. Youth without a pioneer ancestor, the story can be about the conversion story of their progenitor who joined the church -- if the youth is a first generation member, then they should tell their own conversion story
  3. Non-member guest: the story can be about a progenitor who came to America -- if they are a first generation American, then they should tell their own immigration story.

The story should be typed onto an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, folded in half, placed into a quart-sized zip-lock bag, and put into their equipment bucket.

Ward/Branch leaders are welcome to have a Mutual activity for the Youth to write their story and/or practice giving their stories to one another. This One-Page Pioneer Story can also be used toward PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD.

TRANSPORTATION:

Rides to TREK:

Ward/Branch YM & YW Leaders must coordinate rides of their youth & their gear to the DROP OFF POINT near the Marriott Ranch, arriving at 8 AM. DIRECTIONS TO THE DROP OFF-POINT ARE ON THE TRANSPORTATION & DIRECTIONS TO THE MARRIOTT RANCH PAGE HERE.

Rides back:

In addition,Ward/Branch YM & YW Leader must coordinate RIDES BACK and from the Trek site at the Marriott Ranch, on July 8th, and then pick-up on July 10th.

DIRECTIONS ARE ON THE TRANSPORTATION & DIRECTIONS TO THE MARRIOTT RANCH PAGE HERE.

ASSISTING YOUR YOUTH IN ASSEMBLING PIONEER COSTUMES:

Please make sure all your youth are properly prepared with pioneer costumes and assist them & their parents in any way in achieving this goal. See the Pioneer Clothing Guidelines and Tips page.

Coordinating class and quorum activities around Trek preparation is encouraged. See how ideas can be used toward PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD. Have your class presidencies prayerfully consider and plan activities centered around Trek preparation.

Juliette Qureshi (Belmont Ridge Ward) is the Trek Costume Chief, so for any questions and assistance, please contact Juliette Qureshi at her email address here.

5 GALLON BUCKETS WITH LIDS AND VISQUEEN:

Ward/Branch YM & YW Leaders need to remind and possibly assist youth in acquiring 5-gallon buckets with lids. Coordinating the bulk purchase of 5 GALLON BUCKETS or VISQUEEN can be done on a ward basis and certainly, it is an ideal project for PERSONAL PROGRESS/ DUTY TO GOD, see hereResources some for 5 gallon bucket and visqueen suppliers are listed here: 5 Gallon Buckets with Lids & Visqueen Resources Page here.

PRE-TREK GEAR CHECK:

We also suggest wards have a Mutual activity devoted to a PRE-TREK GEAR CHECK where kids bring their buckets filled with all their equipment and bedding gear and visqueen in a heavy duty trash bag. See Youth Packing List and Policies Page here.
