New Club In-House Teams!
The whole club will be divided into 4 teams who will be together when we do relays and then swim against each other in the fun gala in the summer, as well as other events to create a bit of in house competition.

The kids have suggested Harry Potter theme "houses" and the teams will be listed on the board next week, and we will see how it works out in training.

If we could have 2 parent swimmers male & female willing to take part in each team at the gala that would be really good.  Please volunteer!

If you have any other comments or suggestions for team events please use our suggestion box!

Ashbourne Swimming Club Celebrates Club Champions!

The excitement mounted as swimmers and their families arrived at the annual disco of Ashbourne Swimming Club on Friday 29th January. Some of the swimmers tried to get a sneak preview of who had won the trophies but President, Roger Slate,r kept the names well hidden!

The annual club championships were held in November 2915 but all the swimmers have had to wait until the much anticipated annual disco and presentation night to find out who won what!

The club championships are a chance for all the club’s swimmers to compete against their peers in a friendly gala cheering their friends on. There are events for the youngest of swimmers in the novice races right up to the masters competing for the Blue Ribbon Cup.

Special recognition goes to Most Improved Boy: Jolyon Wooddisse and Girl: Tahlia Lee

The night was a great success and the club wish to thanks their sponsors, local businesses John Stubbs Sports, Trouw Nutrition and MasterMover.

Thank you to everyone who attended the AGM on 29th January especially to some swimmers and parents who attended for the first time. We really appreciate your input and feedback.

There is a Ghoul in the Pool!
Ashbourne and District Swimming Club took a team of 8 swimmers on 31st October to the Arc Leisure Centre, Matlock for Belper Marlin’s Ghoul in the Pool 2015 Gala. Halloween decorations adorned the pool and poolside helpers were wearing their finest Halloween costumes! Not that it scared our competitors as Ashbourne’s swimmers did well with 20 PB’s out of 29 swims.

The best performances were from Charlie Scotcher who got 4th place in both the 13yrs boys 100m IM and 100m freestyle and Eddie Archer’s 5th place in 11yrs boys 50m backstroke. Well done to all the swimmers who attended and the parents who supported! It was a very busy gala with a lot of very excited young swimmers!

Wow what a result for the club!

Ashbourne and District Swimming Club took a team of 12 swimmers to COSACSS (City of Stoke-On-Trent Swimming Club) Open Meet on 19th and 20th September at Fenton Manor, Stoke. The coaches were thrilled with the 10 medals won and very proud of their swimmers who got 32 PBs (person bests) out of 52 swims. The swimmers came back with an impressive haul of 4 silver and 6 bronze medals. The star was 9 year old Edward Carroll who won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in his first Open meet.

The club’s head coach, Daf, commented “We had a fantastic result at this year’s COSACSS meet which is only the second time we have participated and with the results of our last time trails at the club, we are on a real high with the swimmers continuing to improve. There is no greater satisfaction in watching a younger swimmer develop and then see them win 3 medals in their first open gala.”

Edward Carroll Silver 9yr boys 100m and 200m Breast Bronze 9yrs boys 50m Breast
Kirsty Durose Silver Open girls 100m IM. Bronze open girls 50m and 100m Freestyle
Katie Taylor Silver 13yr girls 100m Breast. Bronze 13yr girls 200m Breast

Charlie Scotcher Bronze 13yrs boys 50m Backstroke

Four Towns - Sat 12th Sepetmber - Uttoxeter
Thanks for everyone who has agreed to participate in the next and last round of the Four Towns competition.
If you haven’t yet signed up for the coach please let me know by email - it will be leaving the coach bay at the Leisure Centre at 5pm and will cost £2.

Don’t forget … every point matters - a few key pointers ….
  1. Remember not to move on the blocks
  2. On relays make sure the person you are taking over has touched first
  3. 2 hand finish on breaststroke - on every length - relays and individuals
... a single point is better than a DQ 0 point !!

See you all Saturday !

Four Towns Round 4 Gala Saturday 15th Nov. 2014

An excellent team performance resulted in the club finishing only 3 points behind Dove Valley who were 2nd. In a v exciting finish our relay team beat Leek in the cannon to secure 3rd place. Our swimmers improved yet again with 18 PBs and 6 improved relay performances with better times in all the 9yr relay swims. Well done everyone!!

Four Towns Round 3 Gala is a Success Despite Pool Closure!

The Four Towns round 3 gala was our turn  to host the other three teams (Dove Valley, Leek and Belper) but due to our pool being closed we had to use Leek's pool this weekend. Even though we were in unfamiliar surrounds the gala ran very smoothly and was a success. The club could not have organised and run the event without the support from parents. 15 parents, coaches and committee members were on poolside, some of whom were doing jobs new to them, but all looked very organised and professional. The club is extremely appreciative of all the help and support we received including that of the other teams taking part.

Despite missing 7 of our regular team we had 18 PBs and 6 improved relay timesUnfortunately we were not able to complete in 4 open events and this will have had an impact on our final result. We are getting closer to the other clubs and our swimmers continue to improve every time they swim. Positive results which the club should be proud!

A big thank you to all swimmers, parents and coaches who turned out to support the club on Saturday.

The committee are continually striving to improve communications between parents, coaches and the committeeWe are planning to post all news, event details, team selections, any changes to training
times etc. on this site. It will be kept up to date and hopefully provide all the essential information you need.

If you have any suggestions for additional content please feel free to contact Vicky Scotcher our website co-ordinator.

June 2014

On Saturday 14th June our swimmers attended the Four Towns Round 2 Gala at Alfreton. A mixture of A and B squad took part.

We had a total of 8 1st places; Rob Wheeler 50m Free, Lydia Cox 50m Free, Toby Doran 50m Free, Paul Haswell in the 50m Back, Elena Cox 50m Free, Jolyon Woodisse 50m Free and 14yrs and Open Free relays.

Unfortunately we had 5 disqualifications and no points from the 9yrs relays but overall its great news as we improved our performance. The swimmers did their best as we had 18 PBs and 9 improved relay times which brought us much closer to the other clubs in terms of points than in the round 1 gala.

Congratulations goes to Jolyon Woodisse! Not only was this his first gala but he also came 1st in the 10yrs and under 50m freestyle race. Well done Jolyon!

40 MEDALS WON AT DERBY!  July 2014

Ashbourne had great success at the recent City of Derby Open Meet on 5th July where a team of 13 swimmers brought home a total of 40 medals! The medals included 9 golds, 7 silvers and 3 bronzes with the remainder for  4th to 6th place. Head Coach Daf was thrilled with their performance as most of the swimmers also beat their personal best times.

Congratulations to our swimmers who competed in the City of Derby Open!
April 2014

Five of our best swimmers competed in the City of Derby Open Meet on 26/27th April. The Competition was tough with county and regional swimmers from 4 counties attending. Everyone swam really well with 13 PBs out of 22 swims. Special mention should go to Paul Haswell who came 2nd in 12yr Boys 50m Freestyle in a time of 32.2 seconds.
Well done to everyone who took part!

Club Championships 2014
Well Done Everyone!

Not only did we manage to hold our club championships without being in our usual home, Ashbourne Leisure Centre pool, but it also ran smoothly and was a great evening. Credit goes to all the swimmers and their parents who supported the event and thank you so much for travelling to Denstone – and taking off your shoes! The kids enjoyed themselves and swam well and didn't they look good in their new shirts!
Photos Club Champs 2014

Big thanks go to Kev and Jo Shenton for organising the new team shirts.

Please note the date of our bag packing at Sainsburys is Monday 22nd December. This is to raise funds to cover the new shirts as the club has subsidised the cost. All swimmers and families will be contacted to help please.

The results of the Club Championships will be announced at the presentation evening on Friday 21st November at The Venue, Ashbourne Bowls Club, Wyaston Road, Ashbourne, DE6 1NB. This evening will follow the usual format with a disco and presentation of trophies.

Four Towns Round 2 - Leek 25th April 2016
Thank you to all the swimmers and parents who attended and supported the recent Four Towns gala. Ashbourne did well considering the lack of swimmers in certain age groups. Unfortunately we had to swim older swimmers in the 9 years races and so lost valuable points, plus our older swimmers are now too fast for this gala and we gained several speeding tickets and lost points again! Overall we came fourth.
We did win 6 first places, 11 second places, 7 third places, 12 fourth places, 4 OTs, 3 OAs and 1 DQ.

Well done to:
Edward Carroll - 1st 10yr 50m backstroke
Matt Moody - 1st 14yr 50m Buterfly and 50m Backstroke
Eddie Archer - 1st 12yr 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke
14yr Mixed relay Team - 1st Medley relay

Please click: Full Results for all times and places.

OT = over time (swam faster than the upper time limit for gala)
OA = Over age swimmer (due to no one of the correct age able to attend gala)
DQ = disqualified

Ashbourne Swimmer, Kirsty Durose, Wins Bronze Medal at 2016 British Masters Championships!

Kirsty Durose of Ashbourne and District Swimming Club returned from her first outing at the British Masters and Senior Age Group Championships with a bronze medal. The event, which took place at Pondsforge International Sports Centre in Sheffield on the 1-3 April, saw swimmers from across Britain, ages 18 and upwards, compete for a top three spot in their age group.

Kirsty, who is in the 25 – 30 age category and trains with our local Ashbourne swimming club, swam a personal best time of 30.93 for 50m butterfly allowing her take the bronze medal. In the 200m Individual Medley, Kirsty knocked an astounding 10 seconds off her time and finished just outside the top 6. She also put in good swims in the 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle.

“It was the first time I had competed at such a large event and I was really nervous. Thankfully everyone was really friendly and supportive and it was great to see people of all ages competing. I wasn’t placed in the top three so taking home a medal was an unexpected surprise!”

Kirsty is currently training for the 2016 LEN European Masters which takes place next month at the London Aquatic Centre.

Eddie Archer (12) won gold in the 1500m freestyle which was the longest distance event! Two swimmers attend the county championships for the first time Keira Lee (10) who got a PB in the 50m freestyle and Edward Carrol (9) who is showing great potential and made the final for 100m breaststroke swimming in the 9-11 years age group.

Other notable swims were from Holly Herring (14), Girls Club Captain who burst through a tough PB, Paul Haswell who came 5th in the 50m freestyle and Tom Allsop-Simpson (18), boys Club Captain, who came 8th in the final for 50m butterfly after training hard for the last year following a long break due to injury.

Suggestion BoxFollowing comments at our AGM we have now introduced a suggestion box physically at training sessions and on-line.
The aim of this box is to encourage members to have their say in events we run not only galas but mainly social events. These social events are great for the team to get together out of the pool and have fun. The team captains have a box which they bring down to training and you are able to simply put any suggestions for things you would like to do on a slip and place it in the box. However not all members train at the same sessions as the team captains so an on-line version has also been launched!

We're off the blocks with an excellent start to 2016!
We had a fantastic start to this year’s Four Towns Series of galas. They competed in the first round on the 23rd January at Uttoxeter with a team of 26 swimmers and achieved 2nd place against Belper, Leek and Dove Valley.

In total we achieved 9 Individual 1st places and there were at total of 16 personal best times for the swimmers. For more details and times see Results.

It was great to see so many of the swimmers supporting their club at the lane end with many parents saying it was the best atmosphere they had seen. The club continues to go from strength to strength and are always on the lookout for new members especially younger children to become part of their team. Join Us

Thank You Bag Packers!

We raised £587 bag packing! Thank you so much to all the swimmers and parents that helped. This will go towards our fundraising for some professional gala starting equipment and some new starting blocks!

A big thank you to all parents and swimmers who turned out to support the club last night in the 1st round of Derwent League. Even though we were in 5th place overall there were some very good individual performances, the results are on the noticeboard by the pool.

The second round is our opportunity to come back better and stronger. The competition is tough as we are swimming against much larger clubs with a larger number of swimmers to call on, and many of whom have more than one main squad/team!

Help Us Raise Funds
by recycling your printer cartridges, mobile phones and other gadgets! It is really easy!!!
Just click HERE and see.
We will also be collecting any empty cartridges etc pool side for your convenience. There will be a box placed in the viewing area during swimming sessions. Please look out for the box or speak to Terri Bassett.

13 of our swimmers competed at COD Open Meet on 4th July. In what was the highlight of the season, the swimmers scooped up 18 medals including 4 silver and 2 bronze.

Bronze medals went to
Charlie Scotcher 13yrs 100m Back & 100m Free

Against much tougher opposition than last year all our swimmers swam well with 28 PBs out of 34 swims. A number of swimmers put in county standard performances with big PBs but the largest improvement was in 10yrs Girls 100m IM with Jess Kaul knocking a staggering 14.12 seconds off her entry time. Wonderful performance too by our two 9yr girls Anna Poyser and Imogen Scotcher winning medals in 50m Back in their first open meet!

Many thanks to all club members and parents who participated in the Fun Gala - and to all those who helped poolside. It proved to be a fun afternoon and it was great to see so many parents swim alongside the kids, hopefully one which will appear on our annual fixture calendar- plenty of time to get in that training for those tempted next year!
A huge thanks to our Head Coach Daf who put a lot of time and effort in pulling together the teams, who were pretty evenly matched, with Tom's team winning the overall event.

A pair of star earings were found poolside along with a purple swimming hat - please speak with Sarah poolside Monday / Sunday's to claim them

Tom is Our New Boy’s Captain
Rob(left), Roger and Tom(right)

Roger Slater, Club President, officially welcomes Tom Simpson-Allsop as Ashbourne and District Swimming Club’s new Boy’s Captain. Tom is taking up the position of Boys Captain after being with the club for over 8 years. Tom (17) is studying Outdoor Sports at Buxton College and swims with the Senior Squad 4 times a week at Ashbourne Leisure Centre. He was thrilled to be asked to take on the important role of Boy’s Captain and was chosen due to his positive attitude and commitment to the club.

The committee are delighted to welcome Tom but also sad to see Rob Wheeler stepping down. Rob Wheeler (19) had been the Boy’s Captain for the past 6 years and had represented the club on countless occasions at galas, organised social events, qualified as a swimming coach and taught various squads within the club for the past few years. Rob has been with the club since at primary school but is now leaving to pursue his coaching career and is going to Lanzarote to teach swimming this spring. When back in the UK he hopes to return to the club commenting “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club and as Boy’s Captain. The club has been a second home!”
The committee, and club as a whole, wish Rob every success in his new appointment and future. Bon Voyage Rob!

Vacant Committee Positions:

This is an ideal position for one or more parents who, working as a team, would like to improve the social side of the club and help the children do more activates together out of the water! We are looking for some enthusiastic people who can work with the committee, coordinating everyone's help.It would just mean helping us organise a couple of social and fund raising events a year.

This is a new role we desperately need to facilitate the ordering of team shirts and hats etc., holding stock and re-ordering.

If interested in either position please contact one of the existing committee members. See CONTACT US
