(Photos from the school can be found here.)

The fourth ASESMA school took place at the University of Ghana, Legon in Ghana from 13-24 June 2016. The local organizers were G.H. Gebreyesus, M. Egblewogbe, G.K. Nkrumah-Buandoh, all from the University of Ghana with participants from 13 different sub-Saharhan African countries.

The workshop will covered basic methodological aspects such as density functional theory, electronic structure, many-body methods such as DFT+U, BSE, GW and quantum Monte Carlo, as well as molecular dynamics. The hands-on sessions involved the application of these methods to the mechanical, dynamical, electronic, optical and magnetic properties of materials. Each participant engaged in a project on the application of the learned material to current problems in materials physics and chemistry.
