Welcome to the website of the Freight Transportation and Logistics Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Transportation and Development Institute. The purpose of the Freight Transportation and Logistics Committee is to advance the state of the art and the state of the practice in the planning, design, operation, and management of freight transportation systems of all modes. The committee aims:
  1. To promote safe and efficient goods movement on exclusive and shared highway, rail, marine,air, and non-motorized infrastructure by identifying, evaluating, and disseminating advances in research and practice in the areas of freight systems and freight infrastructure engineering and management;
  2. To enhance understanding among engineering and planning professionals and students of the demands, facilities, stakeholders, constraints, and economic, environmental, and quality of life impacts of freight transportation systems through educational outreach activities; and
  3. To promote the civil engineer’s leading role in the provision and operation of freight infrastructure and systems through collaborations with other professional organizations and interactions with a broad community of freight transportation professionals.
