Antonio's Gourmet Market
Antonio's Gourmet Market
What: A "newish" gourmet market in my neighborhood that sells fresh meats, produce, wine and other gourmet items. Also has a deli and to go food. How: I stopped in after running some errands to grab a steak and a bottle of wine for a week night dinner. This shop is new to my neighborhood and I have been there only once to attend a wine tasting that was sponsored as part of the opening week activities. The first thing that I saw upon entering this time was a huge chalkboard with all of the events that the shop was sponsoring in the next month. Cooking classes, wine tastings, beer tastings, a Mexican night etc. etc. As an amateur chef (and a lover of all things booze) I was immediately interested in finding out more about these activities. I went in and grabbed my favorite wine selection (which I had learned about at the tasting that I had been to a few months before) and went to the meat counter to choose a steak. As I walked up there were two butchers present. Both greeted me (one who was helping other customers actually stopped to make eye contact and say hello). The meat case was covered in condensation because it was 103 degrees that day...so I said to the butcher that I wanted a petite filet and could he pick one for me. He said yes and picked a perfect 4 oz selection (exactly the size I always order). While I was waiting other employees passed and greeted me and smiled. At the checkout I engaged in conversation with my cashier about the activities that were listed outside. She gave me a flyer and a business card to check the website for each week's cooking class selections. She explained that I could bring friends and they serve wine! Bonus! As I left the shop I stopped to take a picture of the sign in front and another butcher who was obviously returning from a break stopped on his way into the store to greet me and to thank me for coming in. Why: How this relates to ON is in the relationship that Antonio's is building with me and the rest of the community and how they are getting people in the door. How I found out about this shop was through a flyer that arrived in the mail announcing their opening and inviting me to a free wine tasting. I went (with a group of friends) and fell in love with a wine that I now know that they stock and I will go back for. It has been a few months since I have been back but at the end of the day they eventually got me back in the door. After this visit I am more inclined to go back because of the service, the product, and the offerings. All of the events that are offered is making Antonio's a destination in the neighborhood and a place for repeat visits.
