A one day hands-on-workshop was conducted on 22nd of April 2017 on Aryanet Institute of Technology, Mundur, Palakkad. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. A K Venkita Krishnan, Rtd scientist, ISRO. He is a man who played an inevitable role in the success of India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). He prepared the catalyst that controlled the burning rate of the fuel in the launch vehicle that carried MOM to Martian orbit. Mr. Girish N Iyer (Branch Counsellor, IEEE-AIT Student Branch) delivered the welcome address and Principal DR. M R Vikraman delivered the presidential address. Mr. Shabbir (CEO, Ionic 3DP), Singapore delivered the felicitation address. Memento was awarded to the IEEE members of AIT-SB who got placed in various companies by the chief guest Mr. A K Venkita Krishnan. Mr. Dhillu Thambi of Final CSE (placed in InApp Technologies, TVM) and Abhijith Girin of Final CSE (placed in Performatix Solutions, TVM) were congratulated by all. Special mementos were awarded to Mr. Shabbir, Dr.Du Xin Xin (Director, Ionic 3DP), Francis Regan (CTO and Co-founder Ionic 3D printing), and Xuming (Ionic 3DP).  As a token of respect a gift was awarded to Mr. A K Venkita Krishanan by the college Principal. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr.Vishwanathan (Administrative Officer, AIT).
The workshop started with an introduction to the area of 3D printing by Mr Francis Regan. He explained about various challenges they have faced while designing a 3D printer, which lead to the start-up company, of their own satisfying all parameters. They showed various articles that was designed through the 3D printer and also demonstrated printing a small key chain. The interacting session that made the students to clarify their doubts in person. The session then continued by Dr. Du Xin Xin, who is an automation expert and designer. He explained how the computer aided design of an article can be made. Hands-on training was given to the students. The training process started by creating 3D drawings, converting it to 3D printer compatible format (slicing), to setting up the printers and finishing the final prints. For every single step, the students got hands-on practicing opportunities, along with practical advices and experiences shared by mentors who handled the sessions from IONIC3DP. At the end of the workshop, the students gained how to transfer their raw ideas/concepts/designs into a real prototype through 3D printing.
Dr.Du Xin Xin who is the Director of IONIC3DP who is an automation expert, a passionate learner, designer and a hardware geek, finished his PhD from National University of Singapore. Mr. Francis Regan who is the CTO and Co-founder of IONIC3DP, an engineer by profession, thinker, programmer and a technologist.

Nearly 35 students from various engineering colleges in Kerala attended the workshop and get benefitted. Certificates were distributed at the end of the workshop.
