Advertisement for Peter Paillou in The Glasgow Courier, 23 April 1803.

The portait painter, Peter Paillou, was based in Glasgow for a number of years. Best-known for his miniature portraits,  such as the one of Isabella Alston which is illustrated on The Index on this site, Paillou also painted larger works, one of which is owned by the Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow. It  is illustrated in volume one.
 
More information about Paillou is available in volume one of The Wealth of a City ... , and little-known details of  his later life will be revealed in volume two: 1831-1881, which will be published in 2015.
