Julie was born in a small town in northern Maine as the last sibling in a line of four. At age thirteen the family moved to Arizona where Julie would eventually graduate from high school and the University of Arizona in Tucson. She graduated with a BFA with emphasis in drawing and painting. After graduation she moved to Phoenix where she worked in graphic design studios and galleries for the next several years. In 1998 she began attending Arizona State University to take courses in sculpture and printmaking. In 2001 she began a 2-year graduate degree program at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. After graduating with her MFA she then took a short residency for videography at the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University. In 2003 she moved to Nashville to teach a variety of studio and lecture classes at Watkins College of Art and Design, Bethel College and Volunteer State. She has been a published writer of art criticism in Numbers Inc, Art Papers and the Nashville Scene and given lectures and presentations on contemporary art at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and Vanderbilt University. Today she continues as a practicing artist, writer and also serves as the Director for Visual Arts, Craft and Media at the Tennessee State Arts Commission.Grab your lunch and join the Arts Council for a lunchtime of artistic fun and camaraderie. Guests are invited to bring a piece of their own artwork to share with the group. The Arts Council’s ‘Brown Bag Lunch Bunch’ meets 2nd Friday of most months.
