Glass, Clay and Bronze

"The use of glass with sculpture began with the Dale Chihuly portrait "Glass Man", which was an attempt of mine to convey a real sense of the artist's connectiveness with glass - one might almost say a Zen "Oneness" with the medium in which he works.  I then went on to combine other portrait heads with glass and these have various connotations: a halo or nimbus of light, evincing martyrdom of the innocent victims of war, the placenta of a mother's womb with its sustaining fluid, or baptism in water."
