Thin Kurma
Thin Kurma
This is a popular sweet snack that is made in Trinidad and in Guyana. From the Indian community, made for years for celebrations, now often made and sold in every supermarket, snackette and parlour. There are 2 types - "fat" kurma and this one "thin" kurma - or "soft" and "hard". They are both essentially lightly spiced sweet doughs, deep fried then coated in a sugar syrup that dries to a pretty crystallised crunch. This one is cut in these strips and is thin and crispy, while the fat kurma is softer and doughy, sometimes a bit flaky and cut in diamond-like cube shapes. We call them kurma in T&T,while in Guyana they are both called mittai, or methai (which is a name for sweet things).
