The Tutor

This course is run by Pete Malicki, a successful playwright and producer who makes a living from the arts.


Pete is an award-winning playwright and world-record-holding producer. He’s made a living from running businesses for the last 10 years, with the best part of his income coming from the arts for the last four.

He has produced over 1,000 short plays through Short+Sweet, Crash Test Drama and The Monologue Project. People have hired him to work as a writer, director, event manager, editor, tutor, workshop deliverer, literary manager and more. He's produced theatre, dance, cabaret, music, choir, comedy and magic events.

Founded and runs Australia's leading monologue company.
Stages showcases, runs tours, holds workshops and has a theatre-in-education program for high school Drama students.

Literary Manager of Short+Sweet International
Manages 1,000+ script entries per year and assists over 20 annual festivals in about 10 countries.
Held this position since 2011.

Festival Director of Short+Sweet Comedy+Magic Sydney
Created and delivered the inaugural Short+Sweet Magic festival, which was combined with stand up comedy.

Editor, New Holland Publishers

Offers editing and proofreading services to non-fiction publisher New Holland.

Principal of Editors Australia
Founded and runs Editors Australia, offering editing and proofreading services for fiction and non-fiction authors and playwrights. Works as a book scout, putting non-fiction authors in touch with prospective publishers for a commission.

Coordinator of Crash Test Drama
Runs this script development workshop, where casting takes place at 5:30pm and performance is on at 7:30pm that evening.
Held this position since 2010.

Teacher and Workshop Deliverer
Runs a course called The Intelligent Actor: Monologue Performance and Business Skills at New York Film Academy
Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment.

Festival Director of Short+Sweet Sydney
Short+Sweet is the largest 10 min play festival in the world. Pete ran it from 2012-2015.
Holds a world record for running the longest short play festival in history.

Producer and director of
Shakespeare Tonight by Tim Ferguson and Paul Wilson
Directed and produced the inaugural stage play co-written by comedian Tim Ferguson (Doug Anthony All Stars, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush).

Co-producer and director of 1790; a tale not often told
Directed and co-produced mid-scale production on Australian history.


Prior to working in the arts, Pete gained his business experience from running a book publishing company (Helm Publishing) and a natural therapies clinic in the city (Sydney Therapies).

On top of the above, Pete works full-time at the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage as a Training Project Officer.
