Monologue Performance and Business Skills

This eight week course focuses on training actors to improve their business skills and understanding of the theatre industry, as well as increasing their competency as performers of monologues. 

It is run by Pete Malicki, a Sydney artist who makes the majority of his incoming from the arts and the winner of 15 international awards for his monologues.

About the course
THE INTELLIGENT ACTOR is designed to enhance actors’ skills in two areas often neglected by the training institutes: the performance of monologues, and understanding the business side of the acting industry.

Some of the areas covered under Monologue Performance are:

The basics of writing and directing monologues and how this is relevant to a performer
How to select a suitable monologue
Analysing the text: depth of understanding and mining a script for opportunities
Understanding what makes a great monologue performance
Performance techniques
Rhythm, cadence and timing
How to find, know, understand and become a character
Giving and assimilating feedback

Some of the areas covered under Business Skills are:

Conduct, professionalism, dos and don’ts
Networking, marketing and branding
Producing: budgeting, PR and publicity, insurance, challenging the formula
Local knowledge: venues, key personnel, available resources
Opportunities for involvement in the industry
Paving your own path

You'll learn all of the skills, techniques and theory needed to do an amazing monologue performance, plus gain business and producing know-how to become a smarter artist.
