Semester taken: Fall 2011
Instructor: Prof. Daniel Sauter
This senior/graduate level course is a practical and conceptual exploration into electronic sensors, processors and actuators in the context of interactive art and media. Participants turn everyday objects into “ambient interfaces” that respond to conditions of the human body, data networks, and the built environment. As ambient interfaces, they communicate and expose layers of meaning through embedded audio-visual responses. The course also investigates motion tracking and computer vision as gestural, non-physical interfaces, and makes creative uses of mobile devices — deployed as universal sensors and remote controls.
