In July, 2011, we were privileged to exhibit landscapes
painted by Dr. Albin L. Beyer, Professor of Visual and Performing Arts
at the University of South Carolina Aiken. In 2009, Dr. Beyer won
first place in the professional category for paintings on canvas, wood
or masonite for his landscape, "Swamp," at the South Carolina State
Fine Art Exhibition in Columbia. This show is by far the largest fine
art event in the state. In 2010, Dr. Beyer won Best of Show at the
same event for his portrait named "Phyllis." This spring, he won Best
of Show at the Greenwood Festival of Flowers.
Principally a painter and draftsman, Beyer works in a variety of media that include oil, acrylic, and watercolor. He has eighteen works in public collections and has had over two dozen one-person exhibitions. In both regional and national shows, he has won numerous awards.
In 2004, he exhibited in Orvieto, Italy with Livio Valentini and Leslie Alexander, a show sponsored by Aiken's Partners-in-Friendship and the city of Orvieto. His two portraits of retired Judge Peebles hang in the Aiken and Barnwell courthouses. You may have seen some of his works in the Horseplay exhibit around Aiken that opened in 2003. He painted "Stonerside," "Regions Spirit of Aiken," and collaborated with M. Fowler and J. Elliot on "Celestial Derby."
