A special thanks to the Krause Center for Innovation for an in-kind rental loan of 10 HP Stylus Tablets for the camp and to Next Vista for Learning for an in-kind loan of five flip video cameras.
This pilot summer camp program has been made possible by the Alum Rock Educational Foundation, Dr. George Castro and the San Jose Safe Summer Initiative Grant. Through the support of a Donor Circle for the Arts Grant from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, we will expand the camp to 4-6 weeks in the summer of 2014 to serve more middle school youth of Alum Rock, San Jose.
The Art & Design Thinking Camp is an adventure in making and imagining. We will explore paper making, automata, circuitry, solar energy and much more, all in the context of public art and public community spaces. Middle school youth will collaboratively work in teams as they explore creating prototypes of public space structures using computers as well as a variety of fun and surprising physical materials. Much of our exploration will be anchored to addressing the goals of the Grand Boulevard Initiative and referencing the Grand Boulevard Street Design Tool Box
The camp is free to those on the Alum Rock school district free/reduced meal plan. Lunch is provided.
We look forward to this week of fun exploration at the Mayfair Community Center in Alum Rock, San Jose, the week of July 1st-July 5th (no class on July 4th).
