ABOUT THE DOCTOR

Dr. Garcia was born in New York City and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 

While attending Syracuse University, Dr. Garcia was honored with the opportunity to attend the Harvard Health Professionals Program in the summer of 1983, solidifying her passion and commitment to the medical profession.

She later entered Mount Sinai School of Medicine and graduated in 1989, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine.  In 1992, Dr. Garcia was selected to become the Chief Medical Resident at Elmhurst  Medical Center focusing on primary care for the under-served and working poor population.

Dr. Garcia further sub-specialized in Gastroenterology and Liver Disease with training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York - an institution known for its research and academic excellence.  After finishing her training, she concurrently established a private practice and worked as the Senior Physician at Premier Health Care, a non-for-profit network of health care facilities that specializes in the care of individuals with disabilities, building her practice upon the model of Patient Centered Medical Home.  In 2013, the practice attained the highest level of recognition awarded by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, for Patient Centered Medical Home. 

In addition, Dr. Garcia is a published clinician and has lectured widely in subjects related to gastrointestinal issues in special populations, as well as in topics relating to the health care of the Latino population. She has held teaching positions at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Garcia is board certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.
