Half Moon Bay collecting

Half Moon Bay, CA is the home of several species of ostracod crustaceans.  Among them is a sexually dimorphic species, Euphilomedes carcharodonta.  In this species, males have large image-forming eyes while females have only tiny simple eyes.  Studying the developmental differences between the males and females could be key to figuring out how a complex character can be lost and re-evolve over time.
