A. Rios homemade cakes

This page is a photo catalog of the cakes I've made throughout the years.

I am self-taught, I have never taken any cake decorating classes, but that does not stop me for trying my hand at different techniques. Enjoy my catalog

My very first cake covered in fondant.

First time adding flowers cut out of fondant. The pipping at the edges could use some work

Cake I made for my niece's 8th birthday. This was my first major cake working with fondant. I followed a Wilton idea, but instead of using the Castle kit, I made my own towers with foam and paper. The turrets are covered in butter-cream and edible sprinkles. The bottom cake is basic vanilla cake with chocolate pudding for filling. The top tier is chocolate with vanilla pudding. Flowers and leaves on the edges of the cakes are made out of fondant.

Cake made for my niece's 9th birthday. She asked for a Twilight themed cake. Butter vanilla with a cookies and cream filling on both tiers. Both cakes are crumb coated in butter-cream and covered in fondant. The edges of the black cake are white M&M's.  The bottom tier's edge is piped stars out of butter-cream.  In between the black diamond figures are red M&M's. Cupcakes are red velvet and cookies and cream, topped with white butter-cream and crushed Oreo cookies.

Cake made for Easter 2009. I followed a design from Wilton's website. The cake is crumb coated with butter-cream and covered in white fondant. Handle was made with gum-paste.  Eggs are sugar cookies covered with dyed butter-cream.

Small cake made for a friend's birthday. The idea was to make stars out of fondant and let them dry so they could get hard

Cake made for a friend. They're actually two small cakes. The top tier is a 6 inch round cake and the bottom is 8 inches. Vanilla with a strawberry filing. The bear is made out of fondant as well as all the decorations on the cakes.

Cake made for my sister-in-law. It was my first time making roses out of butter-cream, which were made days in advanced so they could air dry. Cake is chocolate with a cream filling and covered with dyed pink fondant.

Cake I made for a friend's baby shower. They are three carrot cakes, with cream cheese butter cream crusting frosting. I used this butter-cream to crumb-coat the cakes and then covered them in fondant. The theme was teddy bears and balloons. The teddy bear sitting on the bigger cake was made out of fondant. The design for this cake was my friend's idea. Lots of work, but learned a lot with this cake.
