Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smart Phone 002L605 149
When it comes to music phones, people all over the world want a device that is a great music experience--with more memory, loud and powerful speakers, easy synchronization--but must still work well as a mobile phone. The 3G-enabled Nokia 5800 XpressMusic delivers the best total music experience possible while also keeping you connected to all of your mobile communication--from voice and messaging to social networking and web browsing. This version of the quad-band 5800 XpressMusic GSM/EDGE phone is also ready to run on 3G networks here in the US (850/1900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA), enabling fast downloads and streaming multimedia while on the go.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic features a 3.2-inch touchscreen, included 8 GB microSD card, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and GPS for turn-by-turn directions.
It all starts with the 3.2-inch touchscreen, which brings photos, video clips and web content to life in vibrant color and true clarity as well as offers easy navigation through its intuitive interface. It also has a 16:9 aspect ratio for optimized playback of high-definition videos. The 5800 XpressMusic is compatible with Amazon Video on Demand, which allows you to download thousands of movies or TV titles directly to your PC and then transfer the video to the phone.
For your musical enjoyment, the 5800 XpressMusic offers all the essentials including 8 GB memory for up to 6000 tracks (via the included 8 GB microSD memory card), a graphic equalizer, support for all major digital music formats, and a 3.5mm jack. The phone also includes a 3.2-megapixel camera with dual LED flashes and DVD-quality video capture. The built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) makes it easy to connect to both home networks and hotspots on the go, while the built-in GPS supports location-based services including turn-by-turn navigation. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0+EDR for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, microSD expansion up to 16 GB, integrated stereo speakers, and dedicated audio chip for hi-fi sound.
Free Ovi Maps Navigation
With its integrated GPS sensor and the newest edition of Ovi Maps (full version pre-loaded on this phone or available as a free download from nokia.com/maps), you'll enjoy all essential car and pedestrian navigation features as well as the ability to use navigation features even when not connected to a cellular network--great for extending battery life and saving on international roaming charges. Features include turn-by-turn voice guidance, over 6,000 3D landmarks in over 200 cities for quick recognition of the landscape around you, access to Lonely Planet travel guides, and detailed maps for over 180 countries (see more details below). You'll also be able to keep moving in the right direction with the integrated electronic compass.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.
Additionally, this version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic can be paired with 850/1900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA 3G networks in the United States. When paired with a compatible 3G network, you'll enjoy a high-speed connection offering a variety of feature-rich wireless services--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In areas in the U.S. not served by a 3G network or in foreign territories, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).
Among the highest screen resolutions available on a mobile phone, the 5800's 3.2-inch widescreen display brings photos, video clips and web content to life in vibrant color and true clarity. It has a 640 x 360-pixel resolution and support for up to 16 million colors, and it includes an accelerometer that automatically rotates the display based on the orientation of the phone. With a 16:9 aspect ratio and 30 frames-per-second playback and recording, the device is ideal for VGA quality video recording and playback. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers a variety of input methods including a virtual alphanumeric keypad, a virtual computer-style QWERTY keyboard, a pen stylus--and for true music enthusiasts, you can even use a guitar pick.
Making the most of touchscreen technology, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic delivers easy and fast access to all music, video and photos through a one-touch Media Bar drop down menu. The Media Bar also offers a direct link to the Web and to online sharing. And because the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic supports Flash content, individuals can surf even more of the web. The innovative Contacts Bar lets you highlight four favorite contacts on your home-screen and, through a single touch, track a digital history of recent text messages, e-mails, phone logs, photos and blog updates.

With A-GPS functionality, you'll be able find your route quickly and easily, whether walking or driving (A-GPS is a network dependant feature that requires a data plan; additional charges may apply). No Hidden Costs
The new version of Ovi Maps comes with all the maps and high-end, car grade navigation features you need for free and is yours to keep for the life of the smartphone. No additional licenses needed for extra countries, regions or services like traffic information or city guides. Data charges from network operators may apply.
Voice Guidance and Traffic Information
Turn-by-turn, voice guided navigation comes free for both drivers and pedestrians. For drivers this includes lane assistance, traffic information, safety camera, and speed warnings. For pedestrians, this includes shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones for over 100 cities around the world as well as 6,000 3D landmarks in over 200 cities to help you find exactly where you are.
Unique Hybrid Technology
Ovi Maps is built on an advanced technology called hybrid vector maps. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This means that maps downloaded or updated across a network connection are about half the size of bulky bitmaps used by other mobile map providers. The hybrid technology ensures that, unlike other providers, any downloaded map data is stored on the device for future use.
No Network Connection Required When Navigating
Avoid expensive, battery-draining network connections with Nokia's unique hybrid technology. Maps can be pre-loaded on to your Nokia smartphone so you can set Ovi Maps to offline mode, saving battery power, and the navigation system will still work. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad or when you are travelling through areas with little or no network coverage.
Best Global Coverage
You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. This gives you the best maps with the largest global coverage for free.
Amazon Video on Demand
Amazon Video on Demand offers over 40,000 movie and TV titles that you can watch on the go using your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone, and set-up is easy. You'll first need to download the Amazon Video on Demand video player (which may also be called the Amazon "Unbox" player; not compatible with Mac or Linux computers).
The Amazon Video on Demand player can download two types of videos. To save space on your computer's hard drive, the Amazon Video Player will only download the larger video file for watching in the Player. You will need to also download the smaller portable file in order to transfer your video to your 5800 XpressMusic. You can only transfer a portable version of a video if you've previously downloaded the full video to your computer using the Amazon Video Player. The 8 GB microSD memory card included with the 5800 XpressMusic should allow you to store around 15 average full-length movies
Note that you will not be able to transfer Rental Videos to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic--only purchased videos can be transferred. For complete instructions, see this Amazon Help article.
Had the usual junk in the mail today but one of the ad's caught my eye. It was for a PDA thingie that doubles up as an Internet Phone. Looking through the spec I noticed it was not compatible with MacOS yet it clearly has a picture of an iBook in the advertisement. Make up your minds!
