The recommendations included in this chart indicate the minimum distance needed
to protect health and safety of residents. This doesn't imply that official
setbacks, as in an ordinance, should specify that a distance be measured from
individual residences. To protect the ability of property owners to the use
and enjoyment of their property, it makes the most sense to measure setbacks
from the property line. If setbacks aren't measured from the property line,
then property owners effectively lose the right to use and enjoyment of
their property, and may lose the ability to build on it. Of course, these
recommendations indicate that any existing residence which is within the
specified distance of a wind turbine may be adversely affected.
