Sr Dhanam, Coordinator of Sanjeevani Foundation, Lourdes Community Centre, Kalyan, was presented the third Fr. Salvador Rodrigues Memorial Award on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the hands of the Bombay Catholic Sabha President, Ms Rita D'Sa, at St Michael Church Auditorium, Mahim to commemorate the 4th Death Anniversary of Fr Salvador. The Citation was read out by Vice-President, Mr Ronald Tressler. This Community Centre was selected from among six applicants and merited the award for its many uplifting activities for Women Empowerment, Family Counselling, Legal Aid, Prison Ministry, NIOS, Anti Human-Trafficking, Midday Meal schemes and work with the Kathkari tribals.

Prior to the award presentation, Fr Nigel Barrett of the Catholic Communication Centre of the Archdiocese, delivered the third Fr Salvador Rodrigues Memorial Lecture on "Using Social Media for the Glory of God". He presented the many distortions in news stories and reports in print, electronic and social media today, and through examples, illustrated how this leads to misinformation and confusion, and evokes negative feelings and actions. He urged us to "redefine the narrative" and tell the correct story after ascertaining our facts and to use social media to spread the Good News of all the wonderful things that the Church associations and groups are doing in our city through its various outreaches in education, health, social development, youth empowerment, women empowerment, family enrichment, reaching out to the marginalised, etc. so that the Lord may be glorified. Mr Lawrence Fernandes, Vice-President, moderated an interactive session thereafter.

In her welcome address, Ms Rita D'Sa shared fond memories of the relationship the Sabha had with "Fr Salu", as he was affectionately called. She read a poem written by Ms Odil Medeira as a tribute to the endearing shepherd he was. A PowerPoint presentation on Fr Salu and a video presentation on Sanjeevani Foundation were screened. The entire programme was well compered by Mr Anthony Dias, Joint Secretary of the BCS; the Vote of Thanks was given by Vice-President, Mr Robert D'Souza.
