4 out of 5 (very good)

Rough Edges tells the story of Brent and Kyle, two men a world apart who end up living together through the generosity of one of them. Brent was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, a fact that Kyle never lets him forget. Kyle on the other hand, was raised in a trailer and has had to work for everything he has. Kyle also has a chip a mile wide on his shoulder, which although makes him an interesting character, doesn't exactly endear him to the reader. Brent, the one with all the money, the one who would usually come off like a smug jerk, is actually the "nice" one. He has liked Kyle from afar for a long time, and wants them both to take a chance on what he believes could be something amazing.

Very well written, with lifelike characters and situations, there were no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. This is a novella, so it is obviously fast-paced. For a sweet/hot short story, then I can definitely recommend it.

Synopsis:
When love's on the line, the brave jump in with both feet…

Small town cop Clint Rivera can’t catch a break. His ex of two weeks is suddenly getting married, his dogs tore up his furniture, he’s getting evicted, and he’s out of beer. When he decides to solve his alcohol shortage by going to his ex’s engagement party, Clint winds up too drunk to drive himself home.

Enter gorgeous deputy mayor Hawk Black, the man who constantly shows up unexpectedly and sends Clint’s body and mind into a tailspin with nothing but his whiskey voice and blue eyes. After months of patience, Hawk can finally seduce the man he’s been craving.

Clint’s day might not have started out well, but Hawk’s going to make sure it ends with a bang, preferably in bed. He’ll show Clint some rewards are worth the risk. With love on the line, Clint will need to decide if he can open his heart, tear down his shields, and jump in with both feet.

Jumping In starts by telling you just what a bad day Clint is having. He tops it off by going to his ex-lover's engagement party and getting plastered. There, the deputy mayor who Clint has liked from afar, manages to take him home before things go too badly wrong. It turns out that Hawk has also liked Clint, for the past two years, and is determined that this opportunity won't slip through his fingers. Hawk wants Clint, and so long as Clint feels the same way, Hawk is prepared to make his move.

This book seems like it's about insta-love when you start, but as you read along, it isn't. Yes, it happens fast between them, but haven't you ever longed for someone from afar and jumped at the chance of making your dreams a reality? Well, that's what happens here. It is fast-paced and hot, I loved the interaction between Hawk and Clint as they both deal with a new relationship and all the insecurities that go along with that. Exceedingly well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, I loved both main characters in this book, and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever- after sunset. Cardeno's Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, "You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day."
