        Come mingle with other Egyptophiles, celebrate Ancient Egypt, hear Dr. Kent Weeks discuss his exciting finds in the Valley of the Kings, and help support the ARCE DC chapter to continue bringing the best in the field to the DC area.

Main Event: 

"Protecting the Valley of the Kings: Does the Past Have a Future?"                      Dr. Kent Weeks, Director, Theban mapping Project, Professor of Egyptology, American University in Cairo


The Theban Mapping Project has worked in Egypt's Valley of the Kings for over forty years.  It has mapped it, explored it, discovered or rediscovered tombs in it, and is working to manage and protect it.  We will review the TMP's activities, including its work in KV5, the largest tomb ever found there, and discuss its newest projects and discoveries.

Costume Contest: Dress like your favorite Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Nubian, or archaeologist (participation optional)

Photo Booth: Take a selfie in our mock photo booth with Egyptian background and post it on our facebook page or website. Complete with extra costume parts and props.

Ta-Henket beer: "A Blast from 4,500 years in the Past!"  

 Have a glass of Dogfish Head's re-creation of Ancient Egyptian style beer. Brewed according to Ancient Egyptian beer recipes, and based on research in consultation with Dr.Patrick E. McGovern, the Dogfish team traveled to Egypt and even collected wild Egyptian yeast to make a modern version of Ancient Beer. Find out more here.  $5/glass.

Raffle: Enter the raffle for Egyptian themed prizes.

Hieroglyphics station: Our own board member Craig Boyer will be rendering names in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics, on Egyptian Papyrus that you can take home. $5/per person.

The Souk: Shop in our own little 'souk,' or market, for a variety of items— especially books, journals, and interesting items brought back from Egypt including jewelry, scarves and more.

Each ticket includes entrance to the talk, delicious Middle Eastern food, unforgettable baklava,  and two drink tickets. This Event is open to everyone. So we can estimate attendance, please RSVP by MAY 17th, to

across the street from Braddock road Metro station, very easy to access. We encourage attendees to take the MetroStreet parking is available for free all day Saturday, but parking spots can be difficult to find or some blocks away from the event.
