Birthday Cake
We're 100! Benjamen picked lemon cake (he originally wanted chocolate and I was hoping to get rid of one of the mixes I have, but we had no chocolate, so I was going to make it from scratch, but he saw the lemon cake mix and said he wanted that, even after much questioning: "Are you sure? I can make you a chocolate cake! I don't mind! Are you sure you want lemon? You've been asking for chocolate for months! Are you sure?" ) And he wanted blue icing, so I used some buttercream that I had leftover in the freezer from the last batch of cupcakes. He also wanted "those things in chocolate chip cookies." "Chocolate chips?" "NOOOoooooo, those little brown pointy things that you put in chocolate chip cookies." "Right, chocolate chips!" "NOOOOOOOOoooooo, those little brown things. The pointy ones that taste chocolatey." "Um, OK, we'll use those things."
Guess what I did today?!? Yep. Baked. Again. I thought it might be a good time to do a little recap of all I've baked with our new oven thus far--almost 2 weeks in. Roasted Chicken Joebug's Chocolate Chip Cookies Texas Sugar Cookies Eye of round Sweet Potatoes Tilapia Lemon Bars (from scratch--many a lemon died for these suckers) Brownies with Peanut Butter Frosting Banana Bread Biscuits Queen Ilse's Carrot Cake Garlic Bread (first time using the broiler) Not to mention keeping pancakes and leftovers warm for my Matty and using the burners like crazy. So, next week I'm thinking of baking squashes, a lasagna and maybe muffins, cornbread, a chocolate cake...who knows. There's just a world of baking possibilities out there that I've missed so very much. Got a favorite recipe al forno? Send it my way!
