Arbor District Asks City For Help on Crime

posted Nov 19, 2014, 7:27 AM by Arbor District   [ updated Nov 19, 2014, 7:30 AM ]

The Arbor District board met on 11/16/14 with neighbors to discuss the recent uptick in crime in our area and hear some first-hand accounts of crimes and police engagement.  One action action item that came from the meeting was to draft a letter to City Manager and Acting Mayor requesting city help devising a better plan on how to respond to nuisance complaints and other issues such as large, out-of-control parties by increasing police presence, particularly on weekend nights.

The letter was read to City Council on 11/18/14, and it was decided City Manager Kevin Baity and Police Chief Grubbs will meet with the Arbor District board to discuss these issues and devise a more sustainable set of solutions going forward.

The Arbor District board will reach out to community leaders in the NE section who have had similar issues, to identify parallels and promote a more concerted effort.

Arbor District Summer Kid's Pool Party 6/23

posted Jun 16, 2013, 2:33 PM by Arbor District

The Arbor District Board invites the young people of the neighborhood to a pool party!

606 W. ELM St in Carbondale

Sunday, June 23, 2013, 1-5 pm

All children must be accompanied by a person who will be responsible for them - especially those that are going to swim. There will also be a certified lifeguard on duty. This is a “snack potluck” so please bring whatever munchies your family enjoys. We will provide water, lemonade and soda, as well as a few other items.

Please note, as this is primarily a kids party, alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Sorry, adults.

What else should you bring?

It may be helpful to bring a light patio chair, and a towel (or two!) for each child swimming. There are several bathrooms and a shower available, but no have a locker room as such. Children's clothes and bathing suits should be in a bag that they will recognize. Sunscreen is probably also a good idea.

Also, please note our hosts have offered some commonsense rules for use of their property:

Rowdy play, especially in the pool area, will be strongly discouraged. No one may jump into the pool or run nearby. There is a shallow area in the pool of around 3 feet in depth where smaller children can play. A parent must be with these children at all times. The deep end of the pool is quite large and will be open to children who are adept at swimming. The lifeguards request that parents be pro-active in dealing with problems that may occur so that they can keep their eyes on the pool.

We hope that the opportunity to meet other youngsters in the neighborhood will lead to friendships and a shared sense of our remarkable Arbor District. We also welcome those of you who don’t have kids, but want to meet to meet some of your neighbors, to join us.

Please let us know if you and your kids will be attending.

An easy way to do this would be to visit out new Facebook Page, “Like” us, and leave a comment on the page.
