Arbor District Neighborhood Association

The Arbor District is the neighborhood association for the residents and businesses of west central Carbondale, IL between West Main and West Mills Streets to the north and south, and South Oakland and South University Avenues to the west and east. Our neighborhood is noted for its historic homes and its close proximity to the Southern Illinois University campus, Carbondale Memorial Hospital, the Public Library, City Hall, and the shops, bars, and restaurants of the historic downtown center and the "the Strip." Carbondale's nationally designated Historic District runs through center of the Arbor District along West Walnut Avenue, and R. Buckminster Fuller's own geodesic dome home sits at the corner of Forest and Cherry Streets.

The Arbor District Neighborhood Association seeks to preserve and foster community through advocacy and communication of neighborhood issues including planning and zoning, crime awareness, code enforcement, neighborhood development, beautification efforts, disaster preparedness, and community social events. We regularly organize neighborhood clean-up efforts, a potluck in the Fall, a holiday party in the winter, and a summer swim party.

Homeowners, renters, and businesses within the Arbor District, you are warmly invited to become a member of the Association.
