The 777-300ER ("ER" for Extended Range) is the B-market version of the -300. It features raked and extended wingtips, a new main landing gear, reinforced nose gear, and extra fuel tanks. The -300ER also has a strengthened fuselage, wings, empennage, and engine attachments. The standard GE90-115B turbofans are the world's most powerful jet engines in service, with a maximum thrust of 115,300 lbf (513 kN). The maximum range is 7,930 nautical miles (14,690 km), made possible due to a higher MTOW along with the increased fuel capacity. The -300ER can fly approximately 34 percent farther than the -300 with a full load of passengers and cargo. Following flight testing, the implementation of engine, wing, and weight modifications produced an added 1.4 percent reduction in fuel consumption. The first -300ER was delivered to Air France on April 29, 2004. Among all variants, the -300ER ranks second to the -200ER in sales, and since its launch has been a primary driver of the twinjet's sales past the rival A340. Using only two engines produces a typical operating cost advantage of around 8-9 percent for the -300ER over the A340-600, along with a 20 percent fuel burn advantage over the 747-400. Several airlines have acquired the -300ER as a 747-400 replacement amid rising fuel prices. As of April 2010, -300ER deliveries to 21 different customers were 235, with 202 unfilled orders. Operators had 188 aircraft in service as of July 2009. The -300ER's direct Airbus competitor is the A340-600HGW. The Boeing 747-400 is a widebody commercial airliner, and is the second-most recent version of the Boeing 747 aircraft. The -400 series is the best selling model in the 747 family. The 747-400 is to be superseded by the Boeing 747-8 as the latest commercial model, which is scheduled to begin deliveries in 2010. The last 747-400 was delivered in December 2009.
Eva Air Cargo
Eva Air Cargo
EVA Air Cargo, founded concurrently with the passenger operations of EVA Air, has grown to include facilities in Europe, Asia, and North America, and freighter routes around the world. Its cargo operations have diversified to include transportation of high-tech equipment and special care items such as museum artwork and live zoological specimens. EVA Air has stated its goal of achieving a 50/50 split in revenues between its passenger and cargo operations. Following the establishment of its A330 fleet and the introduction of B777 long-haul aircraft, the airline converted some of its B747-400 aircraft to freighters to meet cargo market demands. The new B747-400 freighters have a payload of 114 tons with 30 main deck pallets; additional cargo shipment security is provided through a Smoke Detection System. EVA established its “European Cargo Center” in Brussels in 2003 and opened its “Southern China Cargo Center” in Hong Kong in 2006. EVA has 43 weekly cargo flights to London, Vienna, Brussels and US destinations including Los Angeles, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Chicago, Atlanta and New York. The carrier also code-shares with international airlines including Air Nippon (a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways), British Airways World Cargo, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo. In recent years, the airline has focused its North American cargo operations solely on point-to-point routes. By 2008, EVA Air Cargo ranked among the world's top 10 largest air freight companies. Industry publication Air Cargo World ranked EVA Air Cargo 6th out of 50 in its 2008 Air Cargo Excellence Survey, a measure of cargo service customer service and performance.
