Good Morning!
Good Morning!
This is a shot of what I saw when I went down to the lake in the morning. This is looking west across Mirror Lake in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, Wallowa Mountains, Oregon Taken on September 13, 2009. Nikon D90 Dolica CPL(polarizer) and UV filters Exposure: 1/100 sec. Aperture: f/8.0 ISO: 200 18mm My dad, a couple of friends and I decided to go up to Mirror Lake for a hiking trip. I had just gotten my new Nikon D90 the day before. I was ready to give it a spin! My dad and I left on Friday, September 11 to go up to the trail head and camp. Our friends had to come up on Saturday morning due to prior commitment. My dad and I got up to the trail head at sunset, took a couple of pictures, ate then went to set up the tent. That is when we realized the we had forgotten the tent poles. We drove back out to La Grande and called our friends. The would bring the poles for us the next morning. I have to admit, sleeping in the hotel was nice. The next morning, we got up and drove to the trail head again. Our friend were close behind, so we were on the trail in no time. Let me tell you, that was the longest 7 miles ever. By the end, we all plopped down by the lake and didn't want to move. My friend and I scouted out a great campsite then hauled our gear over. I remember saying to my dad, “We hiked 7 miles for this!?” I really regretted that after about an hour when everything calmed down and the lake became a sheet of glass. It was really amazing. I snapped about 400 photos by nightfall. Then came yet another thing that blew me away. The stars. There was so many... More than I had ever seen before. That was a good night. The next morning, we slogged the 7 miles out. It was really long downhill too. All in all, it was the best hiking/camping trip I have ever taken in my life. I would highly recommend going to Mirror Lake, Eagle Cap Wilderness. It is a hike I can't wait to do again, only next time I want to spend a few days there and maybe climb Eagle Cap itself...
What Dreams May Come
What Dreams May Come
Here is an alternate comp from last nights amazing sunset on the mountain. There are very few wildflowers on this side of the mountain. I am assuming they bloomed earlier in the year. There are mainly just the small patches of little yellow flowers you see here. As of now, the forecast appears to be looking pretty good on Tuesday up here. I may take a run up there for sunrise if someone wants to get up in the middle of the night and go hiking. There are crickets on the trail that were the size of my thumb and very large black spiders crossing back and fourth on the trail all the way out. I had never seen crickets that fat and we even saw something that the photographer with me called a "mountain chicken". He told me the actual name but I do not remember what it was. He said they were very common but I had never seen one before. I also saw an animal that looked like a marmut had sex with a squirrel and created the fattest bushiest rock jumping squirrel like creature I had ever seen. If he hadn't been so fast I would have got him on video but he was like Carl Lewis on the rocks and was gone in a flash.
