April Chalfant

I was born and raised on a farm outside of Bluffton, a small town in Ohio.  I loved music, books, animals, riding my bike and climbing trees.  I still love the first three but now I prefer spending my time closer to the ground...gardening!!!  I fell in love with singing  when I was in high school and decided to major in Vocal Performance at Otterbein College my first year of college.  I became homesick and moved back home to study Fashion Merchandising at Lima Technical College (now renamed Rhodes State College). I've also attended the University of Missouri/St. Louis- Special Education, The University of Akron- Special Education, East Stroudsburg University-graduated with B.S. in Special Education, LaSalle University-Speech Language Pathology, Utah State University-Speech Language Pathology, and then East Stroudsburg University again for my masters in Reading.  I'm also highly qualified to teach English, Social Studies and Family Consumer Science.

Not only do I enjoy gardening in my spare time but I also love to play piano, cook, read, and watch old movies on TCM. I also love to do home remodeling projects but we've taken a break from that due to college expenses.  I've toyed with the idea of working as a professional organizer and helping individuals with a tendency to hoard.

My husband's job has taken us to many new places: Columbus, Oh; Athens, Oh: St. Louis, Mo; Cleveland, Oh; Atlanta, Georgia; Albany, NY; and now here in  Stroudsburg, PA. In that time, we had 3 wonderful children. They all are graduates of  the Stroudsburg Area School District.

I have worked for the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 as both a Transition Coach and Special Education teacher.  I am thrilled to be currently working as a Reading Specialist in the Stroudsburg School District at Arlington Elementary.  I'm new to the school but everyone has been very welcoming and I am so excited to come to work each morning.
