Pakistan seen through my eyes, Book 1. A photographic journey around Lahore, second edition (Travels in Pakistan)
Pakistan seen through my eyes, Book 1. A photographic journey around Lahore, second edition (Travels in Pakistan)
This is the second edition of the book about my visit to Lahore. I wanted to write something different to the average travel book. My intention is to make it a narrative of my travels around the city, just as if I am talking to you in person. Not a dry text book. I know text books have their uses but they are impersonal and generally only show the monuments and museums. I have several thousand photographs and it was very hard making the decision which ones to use.
I want you to see Pakistan as a normal place, where you would go to a café or restaurant, buy ice cream as you walk in the park or go on the rides in the funfair. The people just want to live their lives and enjoy themselves in their leisure time like anyone in any country of the world. There is a lot of bad press about Pakistan and we are always being warned to stay away. But the Pakistanis themselves don’t want us to stay away. They welcome us. Wherever you go, people want to speak to you or have their photograph taken with you.
I never felt so at home anywhere else on holiday as I did when I was in Pakistan. I hope you like my book and it inspires you to make a visit there yourself. You will be happy you did.
Since I first published the book I have added some more photographs and made additions and corrections.

Descent into Chaos: The U.S. and the Disaster in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia
After September 11th , Ahmed Rashid's crucial book Taliban introduced American readers to that now notorious regime. In this new work, he returns to Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia to review the catastrophic aftermath of America's failed war on terror. Called "Pakistan's best and bravest reporter" by Christopher Hitchens, Rashid has shown himself to be a voice of reason amid the chaos of present-day Central Asia. Descent Into Chaos is his blistering critique of American policy-a dire warning and an impassioned call to correct these disasterous strategies before these failing states threaten global stability and bring devastation to our world.
