Day 41 - Gadgetry Overload
Day 41 - Gadgetry Overload
If yesterday was Joanne's long awaited MAC cosmetics launch, today was my long awaited Apple iPad launch! Ohhh it's been a grueling two weeks waiting for my iPad, wondering if I could last the extra two weeks wait if I pre-ordered. Wondering if I would be terrible of me to put off work just so I could go and line up and get one on opening day if I couldn't wait for one. And so, as you can see, I couldn't wait, and went straight to the Apple Store at West Edmonton Mall to get one. Got there at 7:45, they opened 15 minutes later, but had their full staff on taking people in on a one-on-one basis, which was really quite a nice touch. Considering the price of their products, it's good that they have good customer service at least. I also met a great fellow named George who is a professional photographer, and we exchanged many tales of photoshoots, and travel, all sorts of things. I gave him my card, who knows, maybe I'll learn something from him. Eventually got in there, and played around with it, and it was heavier than I expected. But it was a great firm feel, and well, all the features I had been reading about for so long were true. So I went with the 64GB 3G + WiFi version. And let me just say now, Dickson got the 16GB 3G + WiFi version and is already regretting the small amount of flash memory on his iPad. Also, I found it hilarious that I got it, with a case, and they ushered me straight to getting it set up (activating my Roger's account, connecting it to iTunes so I could use it straight away), and opening it up so they could plug it in... No one asked me to pay for it...I could have walked right out the damn door and no one would have said anything. But, alas, I am too honest for my own good, and waited 5 minutes for someone to finally become available to take my money. Hell, all this after I think I got a speeding ticket today. I better be getting major karma points. But it was worth it! I had it and it was beautiful, and on opening day. Got back to work and weathered the pointed jokes about how I waited in line for a gadget, but it was all silence, followed by ooh's and ahh's once I showed it to them. Oh yes, behold mortals, for I hold the FUTURE. Anyway, the battery life is intense, I've been watching movies, playing games, downloading apps and magainzes, and the battery isn't done yet. I'm going to try to finish it so I can do a fresh charge and use it all day tomorrow. Here it is ladies and gents. I'm sure I'd take more (and better) photos of it, but frankly, I'm busy playing with it :) Update: I'm adding this part of the entry right from my iPad. Had to run down the battery tonight so I can charge it up. I have to say I sure am happy that the battery works as long as they claim. But the reason the title should be gadget overload is simple. I was just writing Dickson a message on BlackBerry messenger while listening to music with my Bose Quiet Comfort 15 noise canceling headphones, and reading Popular Science+. Ahh I love my gadgets, I guess I was fated to be a nerd, I'm sure glad Joanne appreciates that part of me :)
