Dammit Steve Jobs
I've seen all the tributes. However, there's only one word to describe the man. Only one. Genius. I got my first mac in late 1984 at Lyons Marketing Communications. It didn't have a disk drive. It was slow as hell. Other artists shunned it thinking it was clerical in nature. The type rendering was awful to a artist, all pixelated. Did I say it was slow? But compared to the previous way of doing stuff, rapid fast. Before the mac, copy came from copywriters on manuscripts that were marked up 12/14pt with -.5 kern. Indent here and there. Oh and if you wanted to run around something, you had to character count the breaks on tracing paper over the alphabet and indicate all of the breaks ahead for the type setter. By the time the client hand changed the copy 3 or 4 times, it was all fu#k it and you dropped the idea of running any copy around anything. I remember the first BIG project that I completed with this mac. The account exec came to me after the fact and wondered about the $175 typesetting bill. The previous 2 years on this project, it was $9000. This project had all the sudden become very profitable. I later got a pivot screen that was about the size of an 8/2x11 page. A vertical screen. Used Quark 2.0. That version of Quark wouldn't let you bleed off a page. Did I tell you that before the mac, most type setting systems did only standard size fonts like 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14... There was no 13 point option. Nor 15, 17, 19 and so on. The typesetting was stored on long rolls of paper with little punch holes and if the typesetter was really good, they could fix a typo with a hole punch and a little strategic searching. Oh the memories... I really don't think anyone under 40 can really understand how this man permanently altered the world for good. This mac classic is probably 20 plus years old. It has 4000kb of memory. It booted with no problems (once I finally found the wire for it). I launched Word 4.0 and without a keyboard, I had to do the old cheat of going to "keycaps" and old app, typing in everything and then pasting it into Word. Amazingly smooth and fast for something with a black and white screen smaller than a iPad.Artisan & Artist GCAM-7000 Bag
This is just a portion of what it can hold. Can easily hold a rangefinder with lens attached in the middle with two lenses stacked in each end. iPad can fit in front or behind the padding, along with magazines or papers. The M8/M9 coder kit easily slides into one of the front pockets. Memory cards, l-bracket, pens, etc find plenty of room in the front pockets as well. Not shown is a full sized pocket on the front flap, as well as one that goes across the entire rear of the bag that could also hold full size magazines, iPad, etc. And inside that pocket is two more! Great for passport. There is also a small zippered pocket along the top inside, just under the iPad and two lenses in the pic. Good for a small cable or two or maybe some spare batteries.
