Mastery Objective: Students will be able to
● Access and search relevant online databases, e-books and credible websites for scientific research.
● Find and apply information about genetic engineering for the "Applications of DNA Manipulation in Medicine" project. 

RESEARCH REVIEW - END OF PERIOD

RESEARCH DATABASES

  • Log in with username and password: lenapehs1
  • Select EBSCO Complete DB 
  • Select the following databases
    • Health Source (Consumer Edition)
    • Academic Search Premier
    • Master File elite
  • Click continue
  • Make sure the box next to FULL TEXT is checked!
  • Type search terms related to what you're researching into the search form
    • Search for various keywords
    • Search for "medicine" as a subject heading and "DNA manipulation" or specific forms
    • Limit your results on the left
  • To cite, click on the "citation" icon on the right hand side of every article and select the MLA format 
  • Find peer-reviewed, academic journal articles and other periodical and reference sources

  • Log in with username and password: lenapehs1
  • Try SUBJECT and KEYWORD searches
  • Search for GENETIC ENGINEERING as subject to access the portal page for the topic
  • Search for MEDICINE and DNA or MEDICINE and GENETIC ENGINEERING
  • Be sure to note the citation at the bottom of every article


Additional databases
  • You can select and use a specific eBook from our collection
  • eBooks can be used like regular books (by using the" eTable of Contents" and/or the "eBook Index")
  • You can also search within a specific eBook by using the search box and checking off "within this publication"
  • To search for specific books, click on MEDICINE or SCIENCE on the left
    • Biotechnology
    • Genetics
    • Gale Encyclopedia of Science, Technology and Ethics
  • Search for specific SUBJECT HEADINGS in search box (basic or advanced search)
    • Genetic Engineering
    • DNA identification
    • Gene mutation
    • Biotechnology
  • Enter topic (genetic engineering) in search box
  • For a topic search, click on "issues" 
    • Select HEALTH AND MEDICINE 
    • Click on BIOETHICS
  • Access up-to-date information from news sources from around the world
  • Use subject terms in bar on left side of page to narrow your topic/results

  • Use our catalog or ask Ms. Gaffney or Ms. Fauver for help finding books on your topic in the Media Center
  • We can also get you books from other libraries
