The World Association of Flower Arrangers (WAFA) is a not-for-profit organisation of floral art societies. It was founded in 1981, with AOIFA being one of the founders, and now has 30 member countries: Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, France, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay and Zimbabwe.WAFA members are linked by their love of flowers and the organisation aims to provide a forum whereby members can exchange ideas and trends.
A host country is elected every three years to manage WAFA. During its tenure, the host country organises many events including an International Seminar, a World Flower Show and General Assembly. The United States of America are the current hosts and in summer 2009 issued invitations to all members to present bids for the next term. Following consultation with our members, AOIFA presented a bid, as did Barbados, Peru and Russia. These four were then invited to submit further expanded bids to be voted on by all the member countries.
Barbados, Peru and Russia each received 4 votes and Ireland received 34 votes! AOIFA is delighted to announce that it will host the management of WAFA for the three year tenure from 2011—2014 and looks forward to welcoming many visitors from all the member countries to Ireland.
