ACADEMY OF OPERATIVE DENTISTRY EUROPEAN SECTION
member of the
ACADEMY OF OPERATIVE DENTISTRY
by Dr. Margaret Wilson
The European Section of the Academy of Operative Dentistry was formed in 1997. The section complements the traditional activities of the Academy and provides a pan-European organization for colleagues with interests in operative dentistry. This is especially important for colleagues practicing dentistry in countries without a national association or society of operative dentistry. It is the aim of the organisation to bring together all colleagues in Europe involved in operative dentistry, both in the academic world and in clinical practice. Meetings are organised and a newsletter (EuroCondenser) is distributed by e-mail to all members at regular intervals and appears on the website. It is the aim to exchange, through meetings and the publication of EuroCondenser, experiences and knowledge among colleagues in Europe.
Meetings have been held at different venues in European countries, usually in association with a national or society meeting. The Academy of Operative Dentistry has many members who live in European and Scandinavian Countries. Hopefully the Section meetings will be supported by the existing members and will also generate interest from colleagues who may wish to join the Academy. Operative dentistry in Europe as in other countries lacks "specialty status", yet remains the cornerstone of clinical practice. It is hoped that like the parent Academy, the European section will be central to education , training and research into operative dentistry as well as being a source of reference for all those working in clinical practice.
